Job Description
Job Summary: The Mechanical Engineer II will support mechanical design activities across a diverse set of development programs, including soldier systems, targeting systems, airborne systems, military vehicle integrations, amplifiers, seekers, and the associated test equipment. As an Engineer II, you will apply frequently used mechanical engineering principles and techniques, contribute to program milestones, and support integration efforts across engineering disciplines.
The Engineer II will be working with and supporting the mechanical design team for one or more projects. Responsibilities include mechanical system concept development, detailed mechanical design and analysis, as well as test and evaluation at the component and system level. The Engineer is expected to present knowledge and a track record in the following essential functions:
Responsibilities and Tasks:
Mechanical Design & Analysis
Develop mechanical system concepts and perform detailed mechanical design using SolidWorks.
Apply and interpret GD&T in accordance with ASME Y14.5-2018.
Conduct static and dynamic mechanical analyses including stress, torque, natural frequency, damping, and thermal expansion.
Perform thermal/structural analysis using FEA tools such as ANSYS Workbench.
Electronics Integration
Work with Electronic Circuit Card Assemblies (CCAs): Create board outlines and supporting documentation required for integrating CCAs into mechanical assemblies, ensuring proper fit and interface definition.
Design electronics CCAs to ensure lifecycle requirements are met, referencing criteria such as Steinberg's models.
Documentation & Deliverables
Generate engineering documentation including drawings, design reports, BOMs, assembly procedures, and test procedures.
Ensure engineering outputs comply with program, technical, and quality requirements.
Independently organize work within established procedures; work is reviewed for soundness and accuracy.
Testing & Integration
Support integration and testing at both component and system levels.
Collaboration & Interfaces
Work primarily within the immediate engineering team; limited inter-organizational interaction on routine matters.
Provide general guidance to lower-level engineering or support staff when needed.
Education, Experience, License, or Certification:
BS in Mechanical Engineering + 2 years' experience, or MS + 0 years' experience.
Hands-on mechanical design, integration, and test skills.
Skills and Abilities:
Growing breadth of knowledge in related engineering disciplines.
Practical judgment to develop technical solutions that are reliable and implementable.
Ability to works with increasing independence
Contributes to designs, improvements, or modifications of mechanical components, systems, or assemblies.
Attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to manage competing priorities
Commitment to safety, quality, and engineering best practices
Travel/Physical Requirements:
Minimal to no travel expected
Ability to stand, walk, or move through manufacturing environments.
Ability to lift, carry, or reposition materials, tools, or parts (often 25–50 lbs).
Ability to work around machinery or test equipment
Ability to use required PPE and comply with safety procedures
