Carnegie Mellon’s Investment Office manages the endowment portfolio and the university’s other long-term financial investments with a growth orientation. We are seeking a Staff Accountant to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity if you thrive in an interesting and challenging work environment. Reporting to the Director – Investment Operations, Risk and Analytics, you will be responsible for core accounting functions and ensuring accurate representation in financial reports.
Core responsibilities include:
- Maintain and track investment commitments and execute related cash transactions, in a timely fashion, for capital calls and distributions. members.
- Monitor cash accounts for timely scheduling and disbursement of wire transfers.
- Process vendor payments in general ledger system and assure timely disbursement.
- Participate in gathering information and preparing analyses in support of annual financial audit.
- Support investment team by providing timely and accurate responses to information requests.
- Computing valuations for the investment portfolio and posting accounting entries (capital activity, valuation change, etc.) within the ledger.
- Assist with managing the inflow of financial information from investment fund managers.
- Assist with the portfolio company tracking process in the investment accounting system.
- Assist with AI integration projects within the Investment Office.

You should demonstrate:
- Knowledge of professional practice in financial accounting and reporting, internal controls, and external reporting. Ability to read, interpret, and analyze GAAP and IFRS financial documents.
- Ability to problem solve and gather/analyze information skillfully and efficiently.
- Technical proficiency in Microsoft Excel. Ability to analyze large data sets and identify patterns and gaps within the data.
- Team player approach to collaboration, strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks with accuracy and attention to detail, and a keen sense of prioritization and planning.
- Excellent interpersonal, listening, and communication skills and high standards of professional ethics and integrity.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, economics or finance required; CPA desired.
- Minimum one to three years in a finance, accounting or auditing position. Previous investment operations or asset management experience is a plus.
- Experience with investment operations platforms such as Dynamo, Geneva Advent, BNY Nexen, Microsoft Power Bi is a plus.
- A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.
