Job Description

Perform preventive and emergency repairs and installation in the field of rough and finished carpentry and carpentry-related areas under general supervision in accordance with established priorities and policies. Tasks are diverse in nature and require use of individual analysis and judgment. Adhere to federal and state laws, as well as district policies, procedures, and regulations.

 

Essential Functions

  1. Perform preventive and emergency repairs and installation in the field of rough and finished carpentry and carpentry-related areas; prioritize tasks to allow for problems or emergency situations; refer problems that cannot be solved to immediate supervisor. 

  2. Fabricate, repair, replace, install, and finish cabinetry, countertops, laminating, bookshelves, chalkboards, tack boards, doors and other school-related accessories and modify existing facilities through construction of walls, doorways, ceilings, duct chases and other assemblies; cut door windows, bevel, and install hinges, locks, and kickplates. 

  3. Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and working drawings; prepare accurate material lists; perform field layouts.

  4. Be responsible for vehicle, vehicle inventory, materials, tools, and record keeping necessary to satisfactorily complete assigned task(s).

  5. Supervise and delegate tasks to the Trades Helper as assigned; cooperate with coworkers and routinely report necessary information to immediate supervisor.

  6. Follow established safety practices in accordance with district policies, particularly as it applies to shop equipment and the spray booth.

  7. Participate in the preparation of specifications and the evaluation of competitive solicitations for lumber, carpentry accessories, and equipment.

  8. Attendance at the work site is required to meet essential functions of the job. 

Other Responsibilities

  1. Make diverse decisions under general supervision in accordance with established priorities and policies.

  2. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties; support district/department goals.

  3. Maintain a professional code of ethics and perform other duties as assigned.

     

Qualifications

High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED); five (5) years of verifiable carpentry experience and related technical training experience; cabinet making experience preferred. Must possess a valid Texas/New Mexico driver's license; subject to the district's drug and alcohol screening policy and regulation; must be insurable by the district's auto liability insurance carrier.

 

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors

Must be able to lift, carry, push and/or pull up to fifty (50) pounds frequently; work under all weather conditions; be adaptable to work a shift schedule and/or hours other than regularly assigned; extended periods of walking, standing, bending, reaching, kneeling, stooping and lifting.
