Accounting Supervisor – Fleet Management Milwaukee County Department of TransportationAnnual Salary: $66,580.80 – $99,860.80
Job Summary: The Accounting Supervisor oversees all financial operations for Fleet Management. This role provides leadership in budgeting, financial reporting, cost analysis, procurement oversight, and internal controls. The Accounting Manager ensures accurate financial management of fleet assets, fuel operations, maintenance activities, and capital replacement programs. The position serves as the primary financial advisor to Fleet leadership.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: • Manage all accounting functions for Fleet, including general ledger maintenance, reconciliations, and financial reporting. P-Card Administrator. Supervise financial support personnel as assigned. Develop and implement financial policies, procedures, and internal controls.• Monitor budget performance and provide variance analysis with recommendations. Forecast long‑term financial needs, including replacement cycles, fuel trends, and maintenance cost projections. Issue a repair quote to depts to support the repair versus replace assessment.• Prepare monthly financial statements for internal and countywide reporting. Analyze fleet cost metrics such as cost‑per‑mile, cost‑per‑hour, and lifecycle cost trends. Provide financial insights to support decisions on fleet optimization, outsourcing and capital planning.• Review and approve vendor invoices, purchase orders, and contract expenditures for accuracy and compliance. Ensure adherence to county procurement rules and grant requirements. Collaborate with procurement staff on bids, RFPs, and vendor performance monitoring.• Maintain compliance with county financial policies, state/federal regulations, and audit standards. Prepare documentation for internal and external audits. Strengthen internal controls related to inventory, fuel systems, asset management, and purchasing cards.• Oversee financial data integrity within fleet management systems (e.g., AssetWorks, FleetFocus). Support system improvements, reporting enhancements, and data‑driven decision tools. Ensure accurate tracking of fleet assets, depreciation, fuel usage, and maintenance costs.• Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements: • Current resident of Wisconsin• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or closely related field• Five (5) or more years of practical work experience in accounting and finance or related field.• Five (5) or more years of supervisory/management experience
