Job Requirements

Position Summary

The Transfer Center Nurse is responsible for the efficient utilization of hospital beds, placing patients appropriately initially to decrease internal transfers. Supports the overall strategic plan including increasing market share goals. The TCRN uses excellent communication and critical thinking skills as they work collaboratively with internal departments and physicians, referring facilities and physicians and transportation providers. Serves as an ambassador of SRMC to our referral partners. Utilizes computer and data systems of the transfer center to the fullest in order to measure and impact outcomes.

 

Minimum Requirements

Education

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing

Experience

  • Two years recent hospital nursing experience
  • Computer literate 
  • Strong communication skills

License/Registration/Certifications

  • Current and unrestricted Registered Nurse (R.N) licensure permitting practice in South Carolina

 

Preferred Requirements

Preferred Education

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), Master of Science in Nursing

Preferred Experience

  • Experience in Medical Surgical, ER and Critical Care
  • Five years of recent hospital experience

  • Adheres to Hospital policies regarding release of patient information.
  • Communicates appropriately with callers, verbal interaction meets unit standards for silent monitoring.
  • Promptly utilizes paging system or assigned phone numbers to ensure prompt communication between referring facilities and accepting physicians to promote positive patient outcomes.
  • Utilizes critical thinking skills, placing appropriate priority on calls received and placed.
  • Communicates with other departments as necessary to meet the needs of patient.
  • Logged onto computer/phone system and managing available calls at start of shift and immediately upon return from meal or break period
  • Maintains “ready” phone status as appropriate
  • Monitor and control noise level and activity at desk area to ensure professional conduct and appearance
  • Demonstrates professional accountability and development seeking out educational opportunities to maintain nursing competency and licensure requirements for SC
  • Must be in good physical condition and able to withstand the stress and demands of an active position.
  • Must be able to withstand many long hours of standing, walking, stooping, bending, and sitting.
  • Must be able to lift or move patients and equipment on the units.
  • Manual dexterity, good eye/hand coordination and acceptable vision needed in daily work.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English fluently.
  • Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees, the public and other agencies.
  • Must be able to respond calmly and efficiently in crisis situations.
  • Must be able to coordinate multiple tasks using critical thinking skills
