Job Description:

The automation engineer creates the automation necessary to manage our public cloud installations. This role designs, develops, and tests Puppet Enterprise configurations, Python, and shell or Powershell scripts for public cloud infrastructure resources. Technical skills in operating system administration are important to understand the purpose of the automation and to test it in multiple environments.

Education/Experience

o Bachelors degree in computer science or software engineering, or relevant 10+ years of experience in the IT field required

o 8-10 years experience required

Responsibility level

o Exercises independent judgment with minimal direction from supervisor

o Works on tasks towards project goals in an Agile manner.

Skills

o Experience working in a Public Cloud environment is crucial Private Cloud alone is insufficient. Candidates must have experience in environments where simple debugging tools such as boot console access are not available. (Required)

o Hands-on scripting with Python is necessary for the successful candidate. (Required)

o Hands-on scripting of automation using either Linux shell scripting or Windows Powershell (Required)

o Verbal and written communication skills, problem solving skills, customer service and interpersonal skills (Required)

o Strong ability to work independently and manage one’s time (Required)

o Strong knowledge of the full software development lifecycle: from business/systems analysis, through requirements gathering and functional specification authoring, to development, testing and delivery (Required)

o Strong ability to troubleshoot issues and make system changes as needed to resolve issue

o Knowledge of computer development software as it relates to scripting in Python, Linux shell, and/or Powershell (at least one Required)

Major Job Duties and Responsibilities:

o Review and approve the modification of existing Puppet Enterprise automation

o Review and approve the modification of existing automation scripts

o Author standards and guidelines to guide the use created software and to protect vulnerable information

o Document scripts and automation and share knowledge with team members to ensure complete support coverage
