Position: Assistant Athletic Trainer

Reports to:  Athletic Director and Principal/Assistant Principal

Job Summary:

The Assistant Athletic Trainer supports the Head Athletic Trainer in providing healthcare

services to student-athletes across all school-sponsored sports programs. This role includes

injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation, as well as maintaining a safe and

effective athletic training environment. The Assistant Athletic Trainer works collaboratively with

the Head Athletic Trainer, coaches, school staff, and medical professionals to promote student-

athlete health and wellness.


Key Responsibilities:

Athlete Care & Injury Management

? Provide on-site injury evaluation and management during practices and competitions.

? Assist with injury prevention strategies, taping, bracing, and conditioning programs.

? Implement rehabilitation plans under the supervision of the Head Athletic Trainer.

? Administer first aid and emergency care as needed.


Athletic Training Room Operations

? Help maintain cleanliness, organization, and daily operations of the athletic training

    room.

? Support the management of inventory, including ordering and restocking supplies.

? Assist in maintaining accurate treatment records, injury logs, and medical

   documentation.

? Assist in mentoring student aides.


Collaboration & Communication

? Work with coaches to monitor the health and availability of student-athletes.

? Communicate with parents/guardians as directed by the Head Athletic Trainer regarding

    injuries and recovery.

? Coordinate care and follow-up with external healthcare providers when necessary.


Game and Practice Coverage

? Provide coverage for home games, practices, and select away events.

? Participate in implementing and reviewing emergency action plans for athletic venues.

? Serve as a professional and responsible representative of the athletic department during

    all athletic events.



Qualifications:

Required:

? Bachelor's or Master's degree in Athletic Training or related field

? Current certification from the Board of Certification (BOC)

? Licensed or eligible for licensure as an Athletic Trainer in Illinois

? CPR/AED and First Aid certification

? Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to make decisions,

    resolve conflict, and interact effectively with students, staff, families, and other

    stakeholders.

? Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities

    efficiently.

? Professional and courteous demeanor with the ability to build and maintain effective

    working relationships.

? Ability to think critically and make independent decisions regarding the assessment,

    treatment, rehabilitation, and return to play decisions per state licensure guidelines.


Working Conditions:

? Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by athletic

    schedules

? Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 50 lbs

? Capable of performing job duties in an office, as well as indoor and outdoor athletic

    environments, including standing, walking, bending, kneeling, twisting, reaching
