OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The Air Freight Manager is responsible for leading and managing all Air Freight operations, business development, carrier relationships, product performance, profitability, and team management. The role is accountable for achieving operational excellence, driving revenue and GP growth, ensuring compliance, and delivering superior customer service while aligning with country business objectives and regional product strategies.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Operations Excellence
- Lead and manage all Air Freight Import and Export operations within the South region.
Ensure operational excellence aligned with policies and regional product directives.
Monitor productivity, service quality, operational KPIs and profitability.
Implement best practices and continuous improvement initiatives.
Monitor yield performance and GP per shipment targets.
Conduct regular operational reviews.
Ensure customer SOPs are implemented and maintained.
Drive safety culture and operational compliance.
Carrier Relations & Procurement
Develop and manage strategic and tactical relationships with airlines and service providers.
Monitor core carrier program compliance.
Conduct carrier performance reviews.
Support procurement initiatives and capacity management.
Monitor market intelligence, carrier performance and industry developments.
Business Development & Financial Management
Own revenue, volume and GP performance for the assigned region.
Support budget planning and forecasting activities.
Monitor monthly financial performance against budget.
Drive GP growth initiatives.
Participate in customer visits and sales calls as the air freight subject matter expert.
Support RFQ responses and pricing strategy.
Develop target accounts jointly with sales teams.
Support trade lane growth and customer retention initiatives.
Product Development
Assess market opportunities and customer requirements.
Develop new air freight solutions and service offerings.
Support gateway and hub development strategies.
Monitor co-load activities and maximize in-house volume.
Ensure implementation of approved product programs and standards.
People Leadership
Lead, coach and develop Air Freight teams.
Manage workforce planning, performance management and succession planning.
Conduct performance reviews and employee development discussions.
Mentor high-performing employees and manage performance improvement where required.
Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement.
Compliance & Governance
Ensure compliance with all company policies, customer requirements and regulatory obligations.
Support internal and external audits.
Ensure proper utilization of systems, processes and documentation standards.
Manage operational risks.
Reporting & Stakeholder Management
Prepare monthly operational and financial reports for Country Management.
Maintain close communication with Country Manager, Sales Leadership and Regional Product teams.
Share market intelligence, carrier updates and competitive information.
Represent the company in customer, supplier and industry engagements
Comply with all Toll policies and procedures.
Perform other duties as assigned by management.

SKILLS ESSENTIAL TO THE JOB
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Logistics, (or equivalent experience).
Experience: Minimum 5-10 years of of experience in an airfreight supervisory or management position.
Language: Fluent in English (written and verbal) is mandatory for direct reporting and collaboration with Country Manager.
Technical:
Microsoft Office proficient.
Presentation skills.
Business:
Comprehensive product knowledge.
Extensive industry experience.
P&L management experience and basic business finance knowledge.
Be able to work within a global network environment.
Ability to develop and implement product concepts.
Commercial awareness.
Human Relations:
Strong communication skills.
Ability to build business relationships with vendors, customers and co-workers.
Entrepreneurial manner.
Solid leadership skills to build and work within teams.
Must be interested in developing others within the organization.
