
School Receptionist
Job Description
A Union County Public Schools (UCPS) Office Receptionist serves as the first point of contact for a school or department. The role balances frontline customer service, campus safety monitoring, and clerical duties to ensure the efficient daily operation of the administrative office.
Front Desk Operations: Welcome and greet students, parents, staff, and visitors warmly. Manage sign-in sheets, issue visitor passes, and maintain building security.
Communications: Answer multi-line phones, screen calls, evaluate inquiries, and relay messages or direct visitors to the appropriate department.
Clerical Assistance: Perform routine office tasks, including sorting mail, operating copy/fax machines, and preparing correspondence.
Student & Attendance Duties: Assist with student enrollment/registration, maintain accurate records (e.g., transportation, attendance), and support after-school dismissal processes.
Support Services: Provide backup assistance to other school operations as needed, such as covering the health room or assisting the administrative team.
Key Qualifications
- Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Skills: Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills are essential. Must be proficient with basic computer software and standard office equipment.
- Attributes: High degree of professionalism, a welcoming and positive attitude, and the ability to exercise patience, discretion, and tact.
Working Environment & Requirements
- This is primarily a classified support staff position.
- High priority is placed on maintaining campus safety protocols and dealing with people.
- May require prolonged periods of sitting and standing, as well as lifting and carrying light office materials.
