This role performs welding operations to join metal parts using various processes while ensuring quality, precision, and adherence to safety standards. Welders play a critical role in producing strong, reliable structures by interpreting blueprints, preparing materials, and maintaining equipment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Perform welding operations using MIG, TIG, Stick, and Flux-cored processes in flat, vertical, and overhead positions.

  • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, sketches, and work orders to determine welding requirements, joint configurations, and materials.

  • Measure, bevel, and prepare metal surfaces; operate grinders to clean materials and remove splatter.

  • Inspect materials prior to welding for correct type, size, and quantity.

  • Inspect completed welds for defects, verify dimensions against prints, and perform repairs as needed to ensure proper appearance, form, fit, and function.

  • Set up, operate, and maintain welding equipment and shop machinery, including drill presses and saws.

  • Perform routine maintenance on welding units, torches, and gas tanks.

  • Safely operate all tools and machinery while maintaining clean and organized work areas and good housekeeping practices.

  • Adhere strictly to all safety regulations, including the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as welding hoods, gloves, and fire-resistant clothing.

  • Recognize unsafe working conditions and immediately report hazards, accidents, or injuries to a supervisor or lead person.

  • Obtain assistance when moving heavy or irregularly shaped materials.

  • Maintain frequent communication with supervisors and team members regarding workload changes, parts flow issues, quality concerns, and equipment or setup problems.

  • Demonstrate full knowledge of welding processes, procedures, and systems, typically gained through vocational or technical training.

  • Perform all setups independently and serve as a go-to resource for others within the shop.

  • Consistently produce complex parts efficiently while applying strong print reading and problem-solving skills.

  • Use sound judgment and discretion to adjust processes and improve efficiency, resolving atypical issues based on experience and established practices.

  • Consistently meet or exceed production routings and recommend improvements to increase efficiency; frequently outperform standard production times.

  • Maintain accurate recordkeeping of direct and indirect labor time and understand its importance to operations.

  • Ensure above-average part quality and take full responsibility for work outcomes without shifting blame.

  • Demonstrate initiative by assisting in other areas of the shop when primary work is slow.

  • Perform tasks independently without hesitation, following established processes while also identifying alternative solutions when standard procedures are unavailable.

  • Work effectively across multiple areas or functions, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability.

  • Operate with limited supervision while making appropriate decisions within established procedures.

  • Contribute to the quality, timeliness, and overall effectiveness of the team through strong work ethic, accountability, and consistent performance.
