Job Description
As needed, interprets/transliterates for the Deaf campus community and visitors to provide access for classroom/education related meetings, programs, or activities. Settings include classrooms, one-on-one or group meetings for students, college sponsored events or presentations, campus-wide events such as Orientation, Commencement, etc. Requests may include hours during evenings and weekends and non-campus locations. Performs independent needs assessment regarding cultural and language variables to determine the most appropriate interpreting methods and strategies to employ. Follows and maintains strict confidentiality in all interactions following Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) Code of Ethics standards. Knowledge, Skills Abilities: Knowledge of and skill with various methods of expressive and voice interpreting/transliterating. Knowledge of the ethical standards set forth by the National Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, Incorporated. Knowledge of standard practices in interpreting/transliterating at the postsecondary level. Knowledge of cultural aspects of deafness and cross-cultural mediation. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
