Job Description

  • Support the Group EHS function in all areas of organisational compliance and development, such as EHS policies, procedures, safe work practices and work‐instructions to reflect changes in operations, or emerging hazards as well as planning and execution of tactical and strategic EHS plans, as may be relevant to Fiji.
  • Ensure the maintenance and management of EHS documentation and records: hazard registers, risk assessments, inspection and audit reports, training records, incident logs and compliance dashboards.
  • Support site management in developing site-specific safety plans, coach and facilitate processes to ensure the successful execution of the plan and ensure regular reviews for continuous improvement.
  • Monitor and report EHS performance metrics, trends and KPIs (e.g., incident/accident frequency, near-miss reporting, audit outcomes, corrective action closure rates) to the Country Manager and relevant business leaders and provide input to the Group EHS function as required by producing the monthly EHS report for the Country and Business Unit.
  • Track and provide insight into common issues, trends, problems, and opportunities to reduce risks and incidents; maintain information and performance measurement systems to ensure that risk is minimized.
  • Leads internal audits and assessments, assisting the team in implementing EHS recommendations and improvements. Work with the business to develop and monitor the effectiveness of corrective actions implemented.
  • Inspect and evaluate workplace environments, equipment, and practices to ensure compliance with standards, legislation and regulations.
  • Evaluates training needs, develops and delivers EHS training programmes (induction, toolbox talks, refresher training) to employees and contractors: covering safe work practices, PPE usage, site‐specific hazards, legislative requirements and develop necessary tools to facilitate and deliver appropriate EHS training.
  • Trains, mentors, and coaches’ direct reports and business partners as well as monitors site practices and conditions.
  • Provide EHS technical oversight and ensure accurate safety statistics as well as input and maintenance of data (incidents, hazards, observations, etc.), via Enablon risk management system.
  • Provide advice, interpretation, and guidance to Management on statutory requirements and best practice developments within the EHS and training fields.
  • Work collaboratively with operations, maintenance, HR and other functions to integrate EHS into business processes and continuous improvement programmes.
  • Assists in maintaining compliance with applicable Fiji employment, workplace health and safety laws, and related regulatory requirements, including coordinating statutory reporting, certification and licensing obligations, incident notification processes, workplace inspections, health and safety committee meetings, and other activities necessary to support the business in operating safely and in accordance with legislative requirements.
  • Leadership:

  • Champions safety interactions on your sites, coach and mentor all employees in safety interactions using HOP principles as a basis.
  • In conjunction with site management, conduct scheduled EHS visits and workplace inspections in your areas of responsibility.
  • Engage and develop health and safety representatives in your areas of responsibility, establish and promote site committee meetings.
  • Provide essential safety leadership by halting high risk activities when identified and facilitate risk reduction activities to ensure risk is driven down to ALARP.
  • Ensure Accountability – hold self and others accountable to meet commitments and set standards.
  • Proactively support the change management process, supporting business unit and site leadership teams to ensure operational priorities adequately consider the change risk and comply with the company change management standard.
  • Promote a positive safety culture: engage with employees at all levels, encourage hazard/near-miss reporting, lead or support safety observation programmes, toolbox talks, and cross-functional safety initiatives.
  • Escalate unresolved issues involving business risks in line with the reporting structure, including timely escalation to the Country Manager as appropriate. Ensure functional managers are always aware of all EHS risks and the appropriate controls to be implemented.
  • Lead and facilitate in incident, accident and near-miss investigations: determine root causes, develop and implement corrective/preventive actions, monitor closure and effectiveness.
  • Facilitate and assist in emergency preparedness: support emergency response planning, conduct drills, coordinate evacuation procedures and ensure readiness.
  • Provide ongoing education/training of the EHS Management system to all employees, supervisors/ team leaders and managers.
  • Ensure training needs analysis is current, site training records accurate, available, and maintained as per company training standards.

 

Other:

Ensure all Company and statutory requirements for injury management are met for injured employees, including allocation of alternate duties and minimisation of time off work. Ensure that Return to Work Plans is developed, authorised by management, adhered to across the business and records maintained. Co-ordinate and conduct monitoring of the work environment. This may involve the measurement of various quantifiable hazards, dust, noise etc. Ensure sub-optimal results are raised and appropriately actioned. Lead, facilitate and assist with environmental aspects as required and ensure operations maintain environmental compliance and sustainability.
