Visa’s Technology Organization is a community of problem solvers and innovators reshaping the future of commerce. The Opportunity:
We are looking for Versatile, curious, and energetic Software Engineers who embrace solving complex challenges on a global scale. As a Visa Software Engineer, you will be an integral part of a multi-functional development team inventing, designing, building, and testing software products that reach a truly global customer base. While building components of powerful payment technology, you will get to see your efforts shaping the digital future of monetary transactions.
The Work itself:
- Design code and systems that touch 40% of the world population while influencing Visa’s internal standards for scalability, security, and reusability
- Collaborate multi-functionally to create design artifacts and develop best-in-class software solutions for multiple Visa technical offerings
- Actively contribute to product quality improvements, valuable service technology, and new business flows in diverse agile squads
- Develop robust and scalable products intended for a myriad of customers including end-user merchants, b2b, and business to government solutions.
- Leverage innovative technologies to build the next generation of Payment Services, Transaction Platforms, Real-Time Payments, and Buy Now Pay Later Technology

Essential Functions:
- Demonstrates relevant technical working knowledge to understand requirements.
- Identifies and contributes to the development and solution strategies to team members that improve the design and functionality of interface features across one or more project features, under minimal guidance.
- Applies standard processes on the use of programming languages (e.g. HTML, C++, Java) to write code that fulfills website modification requests and technical requirements.
- Collaborates with others to support the piloting of new technology capabilities and features that enhance the user website experience across e-commerce products.
- Analyzes bugs for simple issues and applies debugging tools to verify assumptions.
This is a hybrid position. Expectation of days in the office will be confirmed by your Hiring Manager.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
2+ years of relevant work experience and a Bachelors degree, OR 5+ years of relevant work experience
Preferred Qualifications:
3 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or more than 2 years of work experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD)
4+ years of professional software engineering experience
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (Master's degree preferred)
Java & Backend Development:
Strong experience with JAVA, Spring Boot, Spring Framework, Hibernate/JPA
Solid understanding of object-oriented design principles and design patterns
Experience with RESTful API development and microservices architecture
Proficiency in code development using IntelliJ IDEA, Eclipse, or similar Java IDEs
Experience with unit testing frameworks (JUnit, Mockito, TestNG)
Understanding of multithreading, concurrency, and Java memory management
Familiarity with reactive programming (Spring WebFlux, RxJava) is a plus
Development Tools & Practices:
Proficient with GIT/Stash for version control
Experience with Maven or Gradle for dependency management and builds
Hands-on experience with Jenkins, GitLab CI, or similar CI/CD tools
Understanding of code review best practices and collaborative development
Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies
API Development & Integration:
Experience developing REST APIs with proper error handling and documentation
Knowledge of JSON, XML data formats
Understanding of OAuth 2.0, JWT, and API security best practices
Familiarity with API documentation tools (Swagger/OpenAPI, Postman)
Experience with API versioning and backward compatibility
Data & Databases:
Solid experience with SQL databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, or DB2)
Understanding of database design, normalization, and query optimization
Experience writing complex SQL queries and stored procedures
Distributed Systems Fundamentals:
Understanding of microservices architecture patterns
Experience with message queues (Kafka, RabbitMQ, or AWS SQS)
Knowledge of caching strategies (Redis, Memcached)
Understanding of distributed logging and monitoring
Familiarity with service communication patterns (sync/async, request-response, pub-sub)
Basic understanding of eventual consistency and distributed transactions
Infrastructure & DevOps:
Experience with Linux/Unix operating systems
Familiarity with Docker containerization
Basic understanding of Kubernetes or container orchestration
Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) is a plus
Knowledge of logging and monitoring tools (ELK Stack, Splunk, Prometheus, Grafana)
AI-Assisted Development:
Experience using AI coding assistants (GitHub Copilot, Amazon CodeWhisperer, or similar)
Ability to leverage AI tools to improve coding efficiency and code quality
Understanding of prompt engineering for effective AI collaboration
Interest in exploring AI/ML integration in software applications
Familiarity with LLM APIs (OpenAI, Azure OpenAI) is a plus

Ability to write clean, maintainable code following coding standards and best practices

We do not expect that any single candidate would fulfill all of these characteristics. For instance, we have exciting team members who are really focused on building scalable systems but didn’t work with payments technology or web applications before joining Visa
