As a Physical Therapist in the Orthopaedic Department at Independence Family Health Center, you play a vital role in creating a supportive, healing environment that enhances the patient and family experience. You provide specialized orthopedic rehabilitation services to individuals experiencing musculoskeletal conditions affecting the bones, joints, muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Through compassionate, patient-centered care, you help patients manage pain, restore function, improve mobility, and regain independence.

We treat patients across the lifespan who are recovering from surgical procedures such as joint replacements, ACL reconstructions, and rotator cuff repairs, as well as those experiencing acute injuries or chronic conditions including arthritis, spinal disorders, and repetitive-use injuries. Treatment plans are individualized and evidence-based, incorporating therapeutic exercise, manual therapy, joint mobilization, stretching, movement and posture re-education, pain management strategies, and patient education. Working collaboratively with orthopedic surgeons, primary care providers, athletic trainers, and other healthcare professionals, you are committed to promoting functional recovery, preventing future injury, and empowering patients to maintain active, healthy lifestyles.

A caregiver in this position works rotating day and evening shifts from 7:00AM – 7:00PM. 

 

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Perform initial and on-going assessments of patient's condition. 

  • Establish, revise and evaluate a plan of care which is appropriate to problems identified and involves the patient / family according to their capabilities and desires. 

  • Perform therapy interventions utilizing standard physical therapy techniques and skills as appropriate for the age and condition of the patient. 

  • Supervise activities of physical therapy assistants, students and other support personnel. 

  • Use critical thinking skills and decisive judgment to work with minimal supervision. 

 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Bachelor’s Degree or certificate 

  • Graduate of a Physical Therapy program accredited by the American Physical Therapy Association  

  • Current state licensure as a Physical Therapist (PT)   

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross  

 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Experience in a clinical area 

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to walk and climb stairs without assistive device and to maintain balance despite sudden load in order to support patient from falling.

  • Ability to meet physical demands characterized at the heavy level defined by 1993 Leonard Matheson and Ministry of Labor.

  • Ability to lift and reach with arms sufficiently to lift patient's arm and leg during therapeutic treatment program.

  • Sensation of touch and manual dexterity to be able to palpate muscle tension or to monitor patient pulse.

  • Visual acuity to observe patient's gross and fine motor movements in order to analyze these movements and to read all patient monitors.

  • Ability to speak clearly enough to instruct patients and families.

  • Ability to hear at a conversational level to understand patient's description of symptoms and response to treatment.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
