About Our District The Madison Metropolitan School District is the second largest school district in Wisconsin. The district serves a beautifully diverse population of more than 27,000 students. More than half are students of color. Almost half come from low income households. Nearly one third are English Learners, and more than 100 languages are represented in our schools. Purpose of Position The purpose of this position is to provide substitute services for our Play and Learn Leaders. This position is a flexible position and is only used when Play and Learn leaders need a substitute when they are absent. This could fill short or long term substitute requests. Supervisory Responsibilities Implement the Play and Learn program, with Parents As Teachers as a base for the program. Work closely with families (children and caregivers), team members, other MMSD staff, and parent and community organizations that support Play and Learn. Essential Duties Responsibilities Assist Play and Learn Leader with setting up physical space for the Play and Learn session with materials including furniture, books, toys, etc. Assist Play and Learn Leader with preparation of activities for Play and Learn sessions (preparing handouts, art activities, games, etc.) Assist Play and Learn Leader with child and parent activities during Play and Learn sessions (large group, free play, snack, story time) Develop positive relationships with families and children in Play and Learn setting Support families by sharing appropriate information and using appropriate engagement strategies provided by Play and Learn Leader Assist with disassembling physical space (moving furniture, etc. back to storage area) when sessions end Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Experience working with diverse populations Knowledge of child development and developmentally appropriate practices Ability to collaborate and build and maintain positive working relationships with children, families and coworkers Ability to communicate respectfully, responsively and sensitively with adults and children
