Summary:
The reading specialist will help to improves student literacy by providing targeted intervention to struggling readers, conducting assessments, and coaching teachers on evidence-based reading
strategies. They will often work with small groups, analyze reading data, and develop individualized literacy plans to bridge skill gaps.
Category: Full-time hourly contract basis
Pay Rate: depending on education & experience
Reports To: School Principal
Work Year: school days Aug. - May with some additional training days
Specific Days Needed: M, T, W, Th, F (any one or more)
Min./Max. Hours per week: 40
Job Hours: 7:30 AM � 3:30 PM (additional hours maybe added for meetings, etc)
Key Responsibilities:
• Conduct one-on-one or small group interventions for students with reading difficulties.
• Improve student proficiency in phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension.
• Administer diagnostic assessments to identify student reading needs.
• Analyze individual student data to track progress and inform instruction.
• Coach and mentor classroom teachers on best practices for literacy instruction.
• Select and manage reading materials, diagnostic tools and intervention resources.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in education or related field (Master's preferred).
• Valid teaching certification (if required by district/state).
• Minimum of 3 years experience;
• Strong organizational and project management skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Proficient in data analysis tools and student information systems
• Catechist certification
• Safe Haven training
Working Conditions:
• School-based setting with occasional district meetings and off-site training.
• Requires sitting, standing, and lifting moderate materials (e.g., testing booklets, laptops).
