Truestone, an Akima company, is looking to hire a couple General Equipment Mechanic's to join our team working at Tobyhanna, PA. You will join a team responsible for conducting scheduled and unscheduled services on all Material Handling Equipment (MHE) across the installation, to include forklifts – both electric & Fossel fueled, electric industrial vehicles, warehouse mules/Tugs, the GSA Fleet vehicles.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for pickup and delivery of MHE, vehicles across the installation.
  • When not driving, services can be conducted on all production shop equipment and vehicles.  Responsible for operating wrecker/rollback, picking up equipment from all shops and delivering to the motor pool, once serviced/repaired deliver equipment back to mission shops.   
  • Ground Support Equipment Mechanic may be assigned as automotive and diesel mechanics and/or power unit mechanics.
  • Make major repairs to:
    • precise power generator units, electrical systems, electronic governing systems, remote switching systems, high voltage static-automatic control systems, compressors, hydraulic and pneumatic systems and electrical and mechanical systems of all types of mobile and field operation powered support systems, and
    • heavy duty mobile equipment and vehicles powered by internal combustion.
  • Powered Systems Support. Disassembles, repairs, modifies, reassembles, troubleshoots and tests gasoline and/or diesel engines, precise power generator units, electrical systems, electronic governing systems, remote switching systems, high voltage static-automatic control systems of all types of mobile and field operation powered support systems.
  • Work involves checking, repairing and installing rings, pistons, main bearings, connecting rods, carburetors, fuel pumps, valves, crank shafts, timing gears, distributors, generators, alternators, injectors, governors, magnetos, blowers, superchargers, control and junction panels, sensing units, switching units and other electrical and mechanical systems, units and components related to powered support systems. Heavy Mobile Equipment Duties. 
  • Modifies, repairs, troubleshoots, tests and makes other major repairs of systems on Heavy Duty Mobile Equipment and vehicles powered by internal combustion engines (gasoline, butane, diesel, or multifuel. Types of equipment repaired include construction and industrial equipment. Performs the following duties in the repair of these vehicles and equipment: Removes, disassembles, and determines the extent of repair, rebuilding or replacement required. Reassembles, adjusts, tests, reinstalls equipment, and makes final adjustments to air and liquid cooled V-engines, L-engines, and opposed engines; transmissions, mechanical and torqueomatic crossdrive; differentials and final drives; suspensions and brake systems; power and mechanical steering systems; electrical systems (12 and 24 volts); hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical utility systems and electrical controls.
  • Work involves repairing, rebuilding, and installing rings, pistons, main bearings, connecting rods, carburetor, fuel pumps, valves, crank shafts, timing gears, distributors, generators, alternators, starter injection and ignition systems, and other electrical and mechanical systems, units and components related to heavy duty mobile equipment.
  • Frequently work in tiring or uncomfortable positions for long periods. Work involves frequent bending, reaching, stretching, climbing, and crouching; sometimes works on the top of and under, vehicles in cramped or awkward positions. Mechanical lifts, carries and sets up items weighing up to 40 pounds; often puts forth similar efforts in pushing, pulling, turning, and positioning assemblies and equipment.
  • Often lifts and moves heavier units with the assistance of other workers and with lifting devices such as jacks, hoists, and cranes.
  • Work is performed inside and occasionally outside; subject to extreme cold and dampness outside; shop area is heated and adequately ventilated. Work is dirty, greasy and noisy. Subject to possible injuries from tools and dropped units, such as strains, sprains, cuts, bruises, burns, and electrical shock, and slipping from work positions. Inside work is usually performed on concrete floors and involves exposure to exhaust and acid fumes. Follows numerous safety procedures and is required to wear protective gloves, ear plugs, goggles, masks, shoes or other safety clothing appropriate for this position. 

Qualifications

  • Must be a US Citizen able to obtain and maintain a government Public Trust which includes in depth background, criminal and financial check at both local and national level.

Physical requirements:

  • Must be able to pass a Drug Test prior to being hired.
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical and then pass an annual employment physical.

License:

  • Must have a valid license and good driving record in order to drive government vehicles.
  • Must have a CDL-A to operate the roll back wrecker. 
  • Requires knowledgand skill in all the trade methods and techniques for an auto/diesel mechanic and power unit mechanic.
  • Experience with test/repair/overhaul of power units, as well as troubleshoot, repair, road test vehicles ranging from HMMWV to 5 ton truck and 1/4 to 20 ton trailers.
  • Experience with machinery anhantoolrelateto auto/diesel and power unit mechanics.
  • Be able to obtain a TYAD operating permit.
  • Be able to operate hand and foot controls which start, turn, and stop forklifts and tractors, or which raise, lower, or tilt the load on the forklift.
  • This is a first shift position Monday through Thursday 10 hour days.  However, you need to have the ability to work second or third shift if needed during surge times if needed.
