Job Description
Merrick is seeking a Mechanical Equipment Engineer I to join a team of engineering and design personnel serving the Nuclear Services & Technology Business Unit in our office in Aiken, SC. This dynamic multi-discipline engineering group specializes in the design of prototype/one-off custom equipment, gloveboxes, hot cells, specialty research equipment and custom-designed, remotely operated mechanisms for handling radioactive and hazardous materials.
Typical salary range for this position is $68,300 - 80,300. however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Coordinates detailed phases of design work with other engineering disciplines
- Preparation of fabrication drawing packages, equipment datasheets, fabrication specifications, procurement specifications, engineering studies, test plans, and detailed equipment sizing and qualification calculations
- Applies prescribed techniques and procedures in accordance with established criteria to perform assigned tasks
- Performs entry level routine technical work which does not require previous experience
- Detailed design and analytics of custom equipment, individually and as part of design team
- Preparation of fabrication drawing packages, equipment datasheets, fabrication specifications, procurement specifications, engineering studies, test plans, and detailed equipment sizing and qualification calculations
- Capable of working independently on discrete tasks
- Receives close guidance while developing knowledge and proficiency in engineering tasks.
- May direct work of designers
- Assists in the training and mentoring of interns
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree (B. S.) in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited program
- 0 – 1 year experience
- Client Projects for this position require US Citizenship
- Completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, or a demonstrated commitment to obtaining Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification, is preferred.
- Acquires limited knowledge and develops basic skills
- Familiarity with 3D design software, preferably CREO
- An understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities
- Possesses effective oral and written communication skills
- Respectfully and productively interacts with other staff
- Listens well to direction
- Ability to read, comprehend and present technical articles to mechanical team
- Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
