As an Underwriting Assistant, you will support the Underwriting team and act as the owner and principal facilitator of assigned accounts
The Underwriting Assistant will perform front-to-end activities throughout the life cycle of renewal and prospect accounts from submission to expiration with Underwriting oversight
We will have opportunities supporting the following lines of business: Property General Property insurance focuses on protecting commercial clients against physical loss or damage to property, supporting a wide range of industries and risk profiles domestically and internationally
Construction – Primary Casualty The construction primary casualty team provides insurance solutions for large, complex construction accounts throughout the United States
This includes coverage for Workers Compensation, General Liability and Commercial Auto on both a guaranteed cost and large loss sensitive basis
Construction – Wrap Up The construction wrap-up team focuses on centralized insurance solutions for project-specific and rolling programs that cover enrolled contractors under one policy for General Liability and Workers Compensation
Middle Market- Package Middle Market insurance focuses on supporting mid‑sized businesses, providing coverage across core lines including Property, General Liability, Workers Compensation, Automobile and Umbrella
Middle Market- Excess Casualty Middle market excess casualty focuses on coverage that provides additional liability protection beyond primary policies for mid-sized businesses, this would include both Umbrella and Excess policies
Middle Market Middle Market insurance focuses on supporting mid‑sized businesses, providing coverage across core lines including Property, Casualty, General Industries, etc
Wholesale Wholesale insurance operates primarily within the Excess & Surplus (E&S) market, focusing on more complex, specialized, and non‑standard risks that fall outside traditional admitted markets

Technical Specialist Directly supports the Underwriting and Underwriting Assistant staff
Primarily performs support activities associated with new and renewal submission clearance; loss run and credentialing requests; processing of binders, endorsements and regulatory notices along with other miscellaneous tasks
What you’ll be doing What will your essential responsibilities include
Pre-underwrites, evaluates risk, and assesses completeness of the underwriting package before underwriter is required to review
Communicate directly with Brokers on behalf of the Underwriters to collect account and insured information necessary for risk analysis
Perform and apply knowledge of line of business specific product underwriting rules and/or guidelines for pre-analysis support of submission in preparation of further analysis for quoting stage
Collaborate effectively with Underwriters, Brokers, Reinsurers, and internal units within AXA XL to manage the status and workflow of multiple tasks and accounts y Communicate account status to ensure completion of outstanding subjectivities needed to execute policy issuance and premium collection as part of bound accounts
Develops initial pricing, basic coverage structuring, quotation, and binder packages of the risk on behalf of the underwriter
Calculate base rating and apply experience modifications as part of underwriting package completed by Underwriting Support Unit for Underwriter review
Manage the workflow of multiple tasks and maintain a detailed understanding of the status of various tasks owned by Underwriters, Brokers, Reinsurers, AXA XL internal network, and Fronting Partners around the world
Collaborate and correspond verbally and in written format with internal and external contacts across the world, keeping in mind differences in local language, time zones, and good local standard, to achieve a high level of service and meet client expectations
Utilizing the SalesForce platform, ensuring accurate and timely input of information critical to the needs of underwriting team for the purpose of work tracking, productivity and service delivery
Potentially participating in projects where the Unit may be requested to provide Subject Matter Experts related to the Underwriting Support Unit
Assessing when it is necessary and performing quality control of coding and issuance output to ensure accuracy of work (e.g. exposure bases, limits, coverage extensions, modifications, data entry, etc.)
Collaborating closely with Underwriters, Product Management, Legal and Regulatory as necessary to perform pre-bind activities and to confirm policy issuance instructions and manuscript wordings, regulatory notices, certificates, etc
What you’ll bring We’re looking for someone who has these abilities and skills: Required Skills and Abilities: Bachelor’s degree, or some related insurance experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience Robust interpersonal skills in order to work effectively and professionally with diverse groups Proven prioritization and time management skills with accurate results
Organizational, problem-solving and critical thinking skills Competency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, and Excel), Internet Explorer and Adobe Acrobat (or similar PDF conversion tool)
Excellent written and oral communication skills

Applicants for this role must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future
The U.S. base salary range for this position is USD 63,600 – 90,500
Actual pay will be determined based upon the individual’s skills, experience and location
