Job Requirements

Under the direct supervision of clinicians, the Medical Assistant III supports the delivery of high-quality patient care to adult patients at Midtown Health Center, a primary care clinic. This role is responsible for independently performing the patient rooming process, including documenting the chief complaint, verifying allergies, and completing required patient questionnaires such as Risk Screening, SBIRT, Duke Activity Status Index, and Medicare Annual Wellness.

The Medical Assistant III demonstrates proficiency in a broad range of clinical skills, including medication administration via common routes; point-of-care testing (throat swabs, nasopharyngeal swabs, blood glucose, HbA1c, HCG, and urinalysis); 12-lead EKGs; ear lavage; and obtaining and documenting vital signs.

In addition, the Medical Assistant III performs a variety of administrative and clerical functions, including answering telephone calls, processing medication refill requests, completing prior authorizations, coordinating durable medical equipment (DME) orders, responding to patient messages, and conducting transition-of-care outreach and follow-up activities. They are knowledgeable in pre-visit planning and proactively obtains documentation needed to close care gaps and support quality metrics. They also may be required to perform front desk duties, including checking-in patients, in the absence of front desk staff.

As a senior member of the Medical Assistant team, the Medical Assistant III serves as a clinical and operational resource for colleagues and provides day-to-day leadership and support. Responsibilities include assisting management with onboarding and training new staff, conducting peer reviews, participating in process improvement initiatives, and facilitating team huddles.

The Medical Assistant III maintains a strong commitment to infection prevention and control by properly cleaning and disinfecting equipment and clinical environments in accordance with established procedures. The role ensures compliance with organizational policies, regulatory requirements, and patient safety standards.

Work Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
  • Current National certification through AAMA, NHA, AAH or AMT.
  • Certification Includes:
  • Certified Medical Assistant
  • Certified Clinical Medical Assistant
  • Registered Medical Assistant
  • 5 years of medical assisting and medical practice experience.
  • Current BLS certification
