What We Offer

The City and County of Denver offers competitive pay commensurate with education and experience.  New hires are typically brought into the organization between $63,679 - $85,000/year, based on experience and education.  We also offer generous benefits for full-time employees which include but are not limited to:

Location & Schedule

In this position, you can expect to work on-site at project locations Monday through Friday. Standard hours are 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., though some flexibility is available within normal business hours.

DOTI’s Project Delivery Administration – Environmental (Wastewater) Division oversees an annual capital improvement program across storm, sanitary, and green infrastructure programs and projects.  Our team’s core mission is to BUILD PROJECTS that increases safety, sustainability, and health to the people of Denver and the environment.  We accomplish this through the planning, design, and construction management of major capital improvements citywide.  We work as a team, value trust, equity, innovation, and recognition.  

The Construction Team within the Project Delivery Environmental team (Wastewater) is comprised of 15 highly specialized staff members with the responsibility of construction management, and inspection of $120M in active complex Heavy Civil Projects for the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure on an annual basis.  

As a Project Inspector on the Project Delivery Team you will: 

  • Provide leadership in the field to ensure collaboration between necessary parties. 

  • Lead public relations/communications for citizens and businesses 

  • Coordinate field operations with the contractor superintendent and project manager  

  • Assist with the review of shop drawings, RFI’s, Invoices, material submittals, and change orders. 

  • Manage contractor payments and project budgets by reviewing invoices, tracking payment schedules, verifying field measurements, preparing Field Measurement Reports, and collaborating with contractors to ensure work stays within budget and contract requirements. 

  • Facilitate Preconstruction, construction, and worksite meetings with contractors, business owners and citizens  

  • Coordinate with independent testing laboratories to coordinate testing of materials, soils, and concrete  

  • Review project plans, drawing, and specifications during the design phase of the project, evaluate design for constructability, compliance issues, utility conflicts, value engineering, and safety issues. 

  • Document construction progress, to include notes on inspections, lab reports, changes orders, daily work logs with specific instructions and directions, payment requests, and maintains files and project documents.  

  • Ensure quality assurance by verifying compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulations, and conducting inspections of civil and structural engineering work 

What You’ll Bring

Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics:

  • Five (5) years of Heavy Civil Construction experience as a construction Superintendent, Project Manager, Inspector, Foreman or Project Engineer.  

  • Additional experience with underground infrastructure and systems 

  • Knowledge of open cut pipe, bridge, open water way construction, and roadway Construction 

  • Extensive work experience with construction contractors and internal/external stakeholders on heavy civil construction projects 

  • Excellent problem solving and conflict resolution  

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Education requirement: Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field of study.

  • Experience Requirement: Two (2) years of experience inspecting construction projects for adherence to project plans and specifications, or construction project management involving the oversight and inspection of construction materials, methods, and equipment.

  • Education/Experience Equivalency: One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education.

  • Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.

  • License/Certifications: Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application.

  • Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment
