HIRING RATE: $26.00/hour

This position is responsible for assisting Probation/Diversion Officers in completing their daily tasks as requested.  Duties to include but not limited to court database entry, filing and preparing memos to the court.  

This position requires working hours outside of the traditional 8-5 workday. Weekend and evening hours are occasionally required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Incumbent is accountable for all duties of this job and other projects and responsibilities may be added at the City’s discretion. Employees must be able to perform the essential duties of this job with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Under the supervision of a Probation/Diversion Officer this position will have the ability to supervise and maintain a caseload of juvenile probation clients. 
  • These duties include but are not limited to: manage a caseload of low risk juveniles that have been cited into Lakewood Municipal Court, contact clients and parents when their case is noncompliant, track and monitor court ordered terms and conditions of supervision, maintain accurate court and probation records, conduct criminal background checks using CCIC/NCIC, JBITS, JIS, ILEADS and other sites that include criminal histories and prepare files for court.
  • Perform other duties assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Organization Skills
  • Ability to handle demanding deadlines
  • Spanish speaking preferred

Technological Skills

  • Microsoft Office Suite

Education and Experience

  • Education:  The candidate should be studying in the field of Criminal Justice or Social Sciences or have a Bachelor's degree in the above stated fields from an accredited college or university. 

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Must successfully complete and maintain required state or departmental physical standards and certifications.

LIGHT WORK: Exerting up to 30 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.  If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.

  • Walk, ascend, descend on both even and uneven terrain
  • Vision to include distance, depth perception, peripheral and color

Pay Range

$15.16-$57.58

Background and reference checks will be conducted for all regular and some variable/seasonal positions.
