Job Description

Description: Performs a variety of functions to support the District's commitment to digital accessibility. This will be achieved by evaluating, guiding, and consulting on the accessibility of content on District websites, web-based systems, and mobile applications. This role will ensure compliance with accessibility standards and regulations, improving the user experience for individuals with disabilities, and empowering stakeholders to provide inclusive digital content. 

 

Job Summary:

  1. Perform regular accessibility audits of district websites and web applications to ensure compliance.
  2. Establish guidelines, best practices, and standards related to designing and maintaining accessible websites and digital content.
  3. Maintain protocols for submitting both new and revised content to support accessibility standards and IPSD brand guidelines.
  4. Work collaboratively with content creators at both district department and school levels.
  5. Alert creators of outdated or incorrect information requiring archiving, deletion or updating, and assist to ensure compliance with standards.
  6. Post news items and events on the District and individual school websites to ensure they are current, relevant, and accessible.
  7. Develop and implement training and materials on accessibility standards for a wide variety of audiences.
  8. Develop web accessible templates and tools for web production.
  9. Identify, implement and oversee tools for monitoring website accessibility.
  10. Create, review, and edit reports and presentations to be compliant with accessibility standards. Assist in creating accessible/fillable documents on websites.
  11. Provide writing and editing support, including proofreading content for clarity, grammar, and punctuation.
  12. Ensure all video content is appropriately captioned and descriptive transcriptions are readily available.
  13. Conduct research on current trends and best practices in web accessibility and standards.
  14. Organize, maintain, and update a variety of digital files, records, and databases.
  15. Design, implement, and manage a comprehensive system for cataloging legacy hardcopy files and leading the process of converting them into an easy-to-use, searchable digital repository accessible across all departments.
  16. Assist with events, projects, and other miscellaneous items within the Communications department. 

Perform other duties as assigned.

 

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES:

  1. Knowledge and experience with WCAG 2.0 accessibility standards and guidelines.
  2. Experience with accessibility audit and quality assurance tools and processes.
  3. Ability to manage and track compliance data, reports, and accessibility audits over multiple platforms.
  4. High level of attention to detail in evaluating accessibility compliance and ensuring accuracy in reports and recommendations.
  5. Ability to review, assess, and recommend remediation strategies for accessibility issues in documents and multimedia content.
  6. Ability to describe problems and work orally or in writing to supervisor as needed.
  7. Demonstrate organizational and time management skills.

     

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION/QUALIFICATIONS PROFILE:

Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying. 

 

Working Conditions: District Office and travel between schools. This is a non-bargaining 12-month calendar position.
Rate of pay: $21.63-$28.46/hour. Experience will be considered and aligned with others with similar experience in the same position grade. The position is non-exempt under the FLSA.
