Position: Irrigation/Spray Technician

Pay Range: $28 - $30 per hour
Supervisor: Reports to the Cemetery Grounds Manager, Director of Operations or other supervisor as assigned.
Job Summary: Under general supervision, performs a wide variety of activities in the installation, inspection, maintenance and repair of irrigation systems and related equipment within CFCS properties; provides technical support to Cemetery Grounds; this position is responsible for all aspects of pesticide and herbicide application, including use reporting; performs related work as required.
Essential Functions:
- Specialization in irrigation systems. Incumbent performs difficult and responsible technical duties, such as monitoring, scheduling, maintaining, installing, and repairing irrigation systems.
- Installs, maintains, and repairs irrigation systems; changes and adjusts sprinkler heads and maintains controllers; performs repairs on field irrigation computers, controllers, pumps, wiring, valves, pipes, and sprinklers.
- Identifies, schedules, and supervises system repairs and installation of new irrigation systems; reviews plans and inspects installation of new irrigation systems; performs annual testing of systems.
- Monitors and controls computerized irrigation systems.
- Monitors soil moisture and effectiveness of irrigation systems.
- Performs daily inspection and preventive maintenance of CFCS' irrigation systems; identifies any safety or repair issues.
- Identifies weeds and diagnoses plant diseases and problems; selects and properly mixes, prepares, and applies appropriate herbicide/insecticide to eliminate weed and ornamental plant problems.
- Maintains complete and accurate records related to assigned work including work performed, pesticide usage, equipment repair and maintenance, and maintains an inventory of necessary pesticides and fertilizers.
- Maintains maintenance logs and accurately completes all paperwork.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must hold a valid California Driver's License.
- Possession of or ability to obtain a State of California Department of Pesticide Regulation QAC or higher license is preferred.
- Possession of or ability to obtain a Certified Landscape Irrigation Auditor certificate is desirable.
- Must be a Catholic in good standing.
Education and Experience:
- Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade.
- Requires five (5) years of landscape, golf, parks or cemetery turf irrigation experience, with specific experience in irrigation scheduling and programming.
- Requires 1 - 3 years of groundskeeping or landscaping pesticide applications.
Ability:
- Ability to perform heavy manual labor for long periods of time, and in all types of weather conditions.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.

Practicing Catholic with knowledge and understanding of the Catholic Church; Excellent interpersonal and phone skills; great organizational skills; ability to maintain strict confidentially; professional temperament and appearance; ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form using correct spelling, grammar and punctuation; ability to work and relate to a variety of personalities and cultures with diplomacy, friendliness and poise; able to work in a team-oriented environment; handle multiple assignments consecutively and prioritize workload.
