Job Description

Position: Irrigation/Spray Technician

Position Status: Full Time

Schedule: Varies

Category: Non-Exempt

Pay Range: $28 - $30 per hour

 

Supervisor: Reports to the Cemetery Grounds Manager, Director of Operations or other supervisor as assigned.

 

Job Summary: Under general supervision, performs a wide variety of activities in the installation, inspection, maintenance and repair of irrigation systems and related equipment within CFCS properties; provides technical support to Cemetery Grounds; this position is responsible for all aspects of pesticide and herbicide application, including use reporting; performs related work as required.

 

Essential Functions:

  1. Specialization in irrigation systems. Incumbent performs difficult and responsible technical duties, such as monitoring, scheduling, maintaining, installing, and repairing irrigation systems.
  2. Installs, maintains, and repairs irrigation systems; changes and adjusts sprinkler heads and maintains controllers; performs repairs on field irrigation computers, controllers, pumps, wiring, valves, pipes, and sprinklers.
  3. Identifies, schedules, and supervises system repairs and installation of new irrigation systems; reviews plans and inspects installation of new irrigation systems; performs annual testing of systems.
  4. Monitors and controls computerized irrigation systems.
  5. Monitors soil moisture and effectiveness of irrigation systems.
  6. Performs daily inspection and preventive maintenance of CFCS' irrigation systems; identifies any safety or repair issues.
  7. Identifies weeds and diagnoses plant diseases and problems; selects and properly mixes, prepares, and applies appropriate herbicide/insecticide to eliminate weed and ornamental plant problems.
  8. Maintains complete and accurate records related to assigned work including work performed, pesticide usage, equipment repair and maintenance, and maintains an inventory of necessary pesticides and fertilizers.
  9. Maintains maintenance logs and accurately completes all paperwork.
  10. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Must hold a valid California Driver's License.
  2. Possession of or ability to obtain a State of California Department of Pesticide Regulation QAC or higher license is preferred.
  3. Possession of or ability to obtain a Certified Landscape Irrigation Auditor certificate is desirable.
  4. Must be a Catholic in good standing.

 

Education and Experience:

  1. Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade.
  1. Requires five (5) years of landscape, golf, parks or cemetery turf irrigation experience, with specific experience in irrigation scheduling and programming.
  2. Requires 1 - 3 years of groundskeeping or landscaping pesticide applications.

 

Ability:

  1. Ability to perform heavy manual labor for long periods of time, and in all types of weather conditions.
  2. Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.

 

Skills/Knowledge:

Practicing Catholic with knowledge and understanding of the Catholic Church; Excellent interpersonal and phone skills; great organizational skills; ability to maintain strict confidentially; professional temperament and appearance; ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form using correct spelling, grammar and punctuation; ability to work and relate to a variety of personalities and cultures with diplomacy, friendliness and poise; able to work in a team-oriented environment; handle multiple assignments consecutively and prioritize workload.
