Responsible for the planning, operations, and daily supervision of wastewater related activities for the Program. Works on wastewater related solutions exercising independent judgment in developing methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining PWS compliance in concert with and at the direction of the Wastewater and the Utilities Manager.


Responsibilities

• Supervises daily tasks and work orders involving wastewater treatment operations and maintenance.
• Supervision of Wastewater Plant, Operators, Solids Collection Treatment and Disposal, Electricians, Plumbers, Porta-Let Trucks and Septic Tank Trucks.
• Overseas the Completion of PMs/IMP for Wastewater Plants and Lift stations, BOWTS and Base Collection System.
• Oversees the utilization of lab data and operations as pertains to the wastewater treatment plant and sewer collection. Including, monthly testing of potable water conducted by the lab.
• Oversees the storm water pollution prevention program, drinking water program, wastewater sampling program
• Schedules personnel to operate and maintain equipment at the treatment facility. Manages potable wastewater operations during emergency responses.
• Establishes adequate material, chemicals, and equipment inventories for system needs.
• Responsible for the upkeep of assigned PPE, tools, equipment, vehicles etc. and is liable to turn in for scheduled maintenance or when identified faulty
• Directly reports the Wastewater Manager, will assume responsibilities for the Waste Water Department on a temporary basis in the absence of the Wastewater Manager.


Qualifications

Qualifications
Education/Certification/License

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Certification that is equivalent to the State of Florida Class B or higher wastewater plant operator, may be approved by Contracting Officer for non -Florida Operator Certification.
  • Hazard Communicating Training in accordance with 29 CFR 1910.120.
  • Must attend initial and annual 8 – hour Training for Hazardous Waste and Confined Space Training as provided by the Environmental Office.
  • Must be able to speck, read, and write English language.
  • Must be able to gain and maintain base access.

Experience:

  • Two (2) years of previous experience in wastewater treatment processing facilities

Working Environment:

  • Utilities Wastewater Treatment Plants, Trickling Filter Plants, Industrial and Shop environment
  • Work is weighted toward the field environment; some work may be conducted in an office or shop environment.
  • May walk in rough terrain, sit, talk, listen, and use hands and fingers for job functions.
  • The ability to reach with hands and arms, and the ability to communicate voice is required.
  • The operator must have hand-eye coordination necessary to operate various tools and equipment of the trade, and be able to lift at least 50 pounds.
  • The operator must be able to work under adverse conditions including; darkness, wet weather, hot weather, etc.
