We're based in a listed building on Victoria Embankment, across from the Thames and a few minutes walk from Blackfriars Station/Tube.

Role Purpose

The Senior HR Advisor will deliver a comprehensive, high-quality HR service across the employee lifecycle, with a particular focus on employee relations, recruitment and payroll coordination.

The role requires a commercially aware HR professional who can operate both operationally and strategically, ensuring compliance with UK employment legislation while supporting business objectives and maintaining a positive employee experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver end‑to‑end recruitment processes, from role definition through to offer and onboarding
  • Partner with hiring managers to attract, assess, and secure high-performing talent
  • Ensure a consistent and professional candidate experience aligned with employer brand standards
  • Own payroll inputs, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely submission to payroll providers
  • Maintain and validate employee data (e.g. NI, tax codes, contractual terms) to ensure compliance
  • Act as the primary liaison between HR, payroll, and finance to resolve payroll-related queries
  • Lead and manage employee relations cases, ensuring fair and legally compliant outcomes
  • Advise and coach managers on probation, disciplinary, grievance, absence, and performance management processes
  • Support organisational change initiatives, including restructures and redundancies
  • Develop, review, and implement HR policies in line with current legislation and best practice
  • Ensure HR processes and documentation are compliant, audit-ready, and consistently applied
  • Build effective stakeholder relationships and provide commercially focused HR advice
  • Maintain integrity of HR systems and produce accurate reporting to support business decision-making

Person Specification

  • CIPD Level 5 (minimum) or equivalent experience
  • Proven experience in a generalist HR role with exposure to:
    • Employee relations
    • Recruitment
    • Payroll coordination (desirable)
  • Strong knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practice
  • Experience managing complex ER cases independently
  • High level of attention to detail, particularly in payroll and HR data
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Experience using HRIS platforms (e.g. Personio or other SaaS products) including building and running reports
  • Knowledge of the maritime industry or other transport industry would be beneficial
