About the Role

We are currently looking for an Animal Health Technician who will work under the direction of the Barn manager and in close collaboration with the Housing team to support the health, well‑being, and development of all bulls on site. In this role, you will provide necessary health care and treatments, participate in all procedures required to qualify bulls for entry into the A.I. Center and contribute to KPI monitoring activities such as tracking growth and development.


What You Will Do:  

Animal Care and Semen Collection

  • Observes bulls for health, mobility, appetite and temperament; discusses concerns and treatment plans with Barn manager and Veterinarian
  • Provides standard sire care including, and not limited to, clipping, washing and feet trimming
  • Collect samples and perform other approved tests for diagnostic analysis
  • Assists veterinarian during evaluations and treatments
  • Reviews collection schedule and ensures bulls are prepared and ready for collection
  • Prepares collection equipment to ensure safe and sterile handling throughout the collection process
  • Works with the Housing team to collect bulls safely and efficiently in accordance with standard collection procedures. Handles bulls for maximum collection results

Information and Sample Management

  • Enter and update bull data in the AX management system
  • Prepare and submit required documents and certificates for bulls entering the A.I. Center
  • Package and ship samples to laboratories
  • Produce activity and KPI tracking reports
  • Collaborate and participate actively in team meetings

Medication and Equipment Inventory

  • Update and maintain bull treatments and growth data into appropriate information systems
  • Prepare, package and track samples for shipment to approved laboratories
  • Produce reports supporting the tracking of bull activities and KPI management
  • Support communication between Housing, Veterinarians, Continuous Improvement and CFIA
  • Support Supervisor by maintaining inventory of all drugs, disinfectants, vaccines and medical supplies to support approved animal health interventions
  • Identifies and recommends purchase of vet supplies and materials to Supervisor for order placement
  • Ensure proper storage of medication and equipment for veterinary procedures

What You Need to Succeed:

  • College diploma in animal health techniques and/or diploma in Agriculture. Other veterinary training/education will be considered.
  • At least one year of work experience in support of a large animal veterinary clinic
  • Work experience in bovine agriculture
  • Background in commercial agriculture is considered an asset
  • Capacity to work effectively in a team environment is required
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to communicate and work effect with all colleagues

Work Location & Minimum Pay Rate

This is an in-person role requiring 5 days per week in our Kemptville location. This position offers a minimum starting salary of $22.25/hour, with potential compensation enhancements based on applicable experience and qualifications.
