Job Description

Job Summary

The Certified Residential Medication Aide (CRMA) is responsible for the safe administration of medications to residents in accordance with state regulations, physician orders, and facility policies. This role supports residents’ health and well-being by ensuring accurate medication delivery while maintaining a supportive, respectful, and compliant care environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Administer prescribed medications to residents as authorized and within scope of certification
  • Verify medication orders and resident identification prior to administration
  • Accurately document medication administration and report any errors or adverse reactions immediately
  • Observe residents for side effects, changes in condition, or medication effectiveness and report concerns to nursing staff
  • Maintain medication storage areas in compliance with safety and regulatory standards
  • Assist with medication counts, audits, and inventory control
  • Follow infection control, safety, and confidentiality policies at all times
  • Communicate effectively with residents, nursing staff, supervisors, and healthcare providers
  • Support residents with activities of daily living as needed, within role scope
  • Participate in required training, in-services, and competency evaluations
  • Assist as needed.

Compliance & Professional Standards

  • Must maintain current certification and meet all state and facility requirements
  • Adhere to all policies related to resident rights, confidentiality (HIPAA), and workplace safety

  • Promotes a culture of safety for patients and employees through proper identification, reporting, documentation, and prevention
  • Maintains competency and knowledge of current standards of practice, trends, and developments in related scope of job role or practice
  • Adheres to infection control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations
  • Participate in ongoing quality improvement activities
  • Completes required orientation as directed by the facility
  • Follows facility and OSHA safety rules and procedures while on assignment
  • Follows the facility and CFG Health Occurrence Protocol
  • Upholds HIPAA and PREA regulations
  • Punctual and dependable for assigned/confirmed shifts
  • Maintains security clearance for the assigned facility

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Current Certified Residential Medication Aide (CRMA) certification in good standing
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
  • Basic understanding of medication administration principles and resident care
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately
  • CPR and First Aid certification
  • Experience with electronic medication administration records (eMAR)

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift as required during shifts
  • Ability to assist residents with mobility as permitted by role and facility policy
  • Manual dexterity sufficient for medication administration and documentation
