Position Summary
The Senior Field Operations Engineer – ISR is a key contributor to DZYNE's field support capability, functioning primarily as the home-team anchor for the FOE organization. While deployed assets are supported in the field by Field Service Engineers and Representatives, this role ensures that the data collection methods, reporting systems, and knowledge bases those personnel rely on are well-designed, consistently utilized, and continuously improved; enabling the broader FOE team to deliver effective reach-back support to deployed operations.
This engineer brings a background rooted in technical documentation, systems design capture, or test and evaluation, experience that instills a deep appreciation for why rigorous data collection matters, not just for solving the issue at hand, but for building institutional knowledge that prevents recurrence and informs future design. Working closely with the wider Field Engineering Team, this position collaborates on the development and evolution of field data infrastructure, FRACAS processes, and operational reporting systems, with shared ownership of their long-term growth and products.
Technical depth in electrical, avionics, or RF subsystems is essential, providing a complementary systems perspective to the team's existing mechanical and field operations expertise.
Some of the platforms you might be working on include;
Required Duties and Responsibilities:
- Serve as the point of contact for field data infrastructure, monitoring utilization of reporting tools and data collection workflows by deployed Field Service Engineers and Representatives, and providing guidance to ensure consistent, high-quality data entry.
- Collaborate with the Field Engineering Team to assist in the development, refinement, and documentation of field data collection processes, FRACAS workflows, and standard operating procedures; contribute actively to the shared growth of these systems over time.
- Analyze maintenance and failure data to identify trends, generate reports and summaries, and present findings to cross-functional stakeholders and leadership.
- Manage and evolve the field technical knowledge base, ensuring it remains current, searchable, and actionable for both home-team and deployed personnel providing reach-back support.
- Assist in the development and upkeep of training materials that ensure field personnel understand and consistently apply established data collection and reporting standards.
- Serve as a technical resource for electrical, avionics, and RF subsystems; support troubleshooting analysis and root cause investigations for issues within that domain. With working knowledge of unmanned systems architecture and mechanical disciplines to facilitate communication with subject matter experts outside of ones personal knowledge area strengths
- Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, and Manufacturing teams to translate field findings into corrective actions, service bulletins, and engineering memos.
- Support logistics coordination tied to field findings, including spare parts data analysis and operational readiness inputs.
- Support investigation and documentation of mishap events and field incidents.
- Coordinate with the Field Engineering Team and cross-functional SMEs to ensure field processes align with internal quality and documentation standards.
- Expected to work on-site in Irvine, CA during regular business hours; primary function is home-team support with limited field deployment requirements
Required Skills/Qualifications:
- 5 – 7 years of experience in systems engineering, test and evaluation, technical documentation, or a closely related field; with demonstrated understanding of the value of structured data collection and traceability throughout a system's lifecycle.
- Background in electrical engineering, avionics, RF systems, or a related discipline; ability to engage technically with electrical and RF subsystem issues in a field support context.
- Experience producing or managing technical documentation such as test reports, design capture documents, data packages, SOPs, or equivalent artifacts that reflect a rigorous approach to recording and communicating technical information.
- Strong data management and analytical skills; ability to structure, query, and draw meaningful conclusions from operational and maintenance datasets.
- Experience with issue triage, root cause analysis, or failure investigation in a hardware-centric environment.
- Comfortable working in a support operations environment, including availability for off-hours reach-back support when field assets are deployed.
- Must be based in or willing to relocate to the Irvine, CA area

- Familiarity with avionics integration, power distribution, or flight control systems.
- Prior experience contributing to or scaling a Failure Reporting and Corrective Action System (FRACAS), including data schema design and reporting infrastructure.
- Experience using data tools (e.g., Excel, SQL, Python, or BI platforms) to analyze and visualize maintenance or operational data.
- Ability to create and manage a searchable troubleshooting knowledge base.
- Experience working in a cross-functional product development or sustainment environment alongside Engineering and Quality teams.
