
Collision / Body Technician
Job Description
Summary: Responsible for identifying and performing necessary body repair work in accordance with factory and Collision Center specifications.
Supervisory Responsibilities: This job has no direct supervisor responsibilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
- Examines body damage on customer vehicles
- Identifies necessary body repair work
- Estimates cost of body work
- Requests necessary parts
- Performs body repairs including removing damaged body parts and replacing with fixed or new parts
- Documents repairs performed
- Performs body repairs efficiently and according to Collision Center and insurance company guidelines
- Maintains CSI at or above Company standards
- Maintains an organized, clean and safe work area
- Participates in required training
- Records all hours worked accurately in company timekeeping system
- Follows Safeguards rules and regulations.
- Demonstrates the Company’s Core Values.
- Complies with Company policies and procedures.
- Observes all Federal, State, Local and Company safety rules and regulations in the performance of duties.
- Other duties as assigned.

Desired Education: High School Diploma
Desired Work Experience: 5+ years
Certificates and Licenses: Driver’s License
Education/Experience:
Thorough knowledge of automotive parts and systems. Demonstrable mechanical skills and knowledge. Technical training or commensurate technical experience required.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations. Ability to understand and follow technical manuals. Strong problem-solving skills to identify and request necessary parts, and perform repairs efficiently while adhering to dealership and manufacturer guidelines.
Verbal and Writing Ability:
Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos. Ability to use communication skills to clearly explain vehicle issues, repair needs, and recommendations to team members, service advisors, and customers. Proficient writing skills to accurately document services performed, parts requested, and any issues identified, ensuring clear and thorough records in the dealership's system.
Computer Skills:
Proficient in using dealership software systems to document vehicle services, track repair history, and manage timekeeping. Capable of navigating the parts department inventory and ordering system to request necessary parts efficiently, and able to utilize technology to ensure accurate documentation of repairs and maintenance.
Math Ability:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide. Proficiency in using measurements to assess parts and ensure proper fitting during repairs and maintenance.
Environment Demands:
Duties are performed primarily in the service area. Work includes movement around vehicles, working in various physical positions, and the safe operation of power tools and test equipment. May be exposed to loud noise, vibration, exhaust fumes, and other service and repair conditions. Frequently interacts with customers, service advisors and the service manager.
Communication Skills:
Ability to clearly communicate with customers and team members to accurately diagnose issues, explain repair needs, and provide updates on vehicle status. Must be able to follow detailed service instructions and relay any necessary information about repairs, maintenance, or parts requirements to ensure efficient workflow and customer satisfaction.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:
- Lifting & Carrying: Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull objects weighing up to 50 pounds; occasionally maneuver heavy vehicle components, equipment, or parts exceeding 50 pounds with the assistance of mechanical lifting devices
- Standing & Movement: Stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday on hard surfaces such as concrete; frequently bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl to access vehicle undercarriages, wheel wells, and low-clearance areas
- Reaching & Working Positions: Reach overhead, below the knee, and at shoulder level; work in confined spaces, awkward positions, and at various heights when accessing different vehicle areas
- Hand & Wrist Use: Continuously use hands and fingers to grip, handle, feel, and manipulate tools, equipment, spray guns, and vehicle components; perform repetitive hand and wrist motions throughout the shift
- Vision: Maintain close, distance, color, depth perception, and peripheral vision to accurately assess vehicle damage, match paint colors, and ensure quality of repairs
- Sensory: Must be able to talk and hear, including wearing hearing protection as required; ability to detect odors related to chemicals, paints, and vehicle fluids
- Physical Stamina: Sustain physical activity throughout an entire shift, which may include extended hours; safely work in a fast-paced environment with exposure to noise, fumes, and varying temperature
