Compensation : $ 20 - $ 25/ hr
VCA Mueller Pet Medical Center is a 24-hour AAHA-accredited hybrid GP/ER hospital in Sacramento seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our growing Emergency & Critical Care team.
This position is ideal for a VA who enjoys fast-paced medicine, critical thinking, inpatient care, and being part of a collaborative team that genuinely supports one another. Our VAs are highly utilized and play an active role in emergency stabilization, triage, and critical patient care.

We are looking for an experienced VA who:
Thrives in a fast-paced emergency environment
Enjoys critical thinking and inpatient care
- Works well independently while valuing teamwork and communication
Is adaptable, motivated, and eager to continue growing their skillset
Previous ER, urgent care, or high-volume veterinary experience is strongly preferred. The ideal candidate is someone who can confidently step into a busy hospital environment while helping support efficient patient flow, high-quality medicine, and exceptional patient care.
What You’ll Do
Our VAs are actively involved in:
Support if emergency triage and patient stabilization
Inpatient and ICU treatments and monitoring
Venipuncture and catheter placement
- Laboratory and diagnostic support
Critical patient care
Client communication and education
Collaboration with DVMs across emergency, inpatient, and GP services
Compensation & Benefits
Compensation is based on experience, skillset, and credentialing, with additional shift differentials available for swing and overnight coverage.
