Why Modesto
Situated halfway between San Francisco and Yosemite National Park, Modesto offers a rare combination of affordability, accessibility, and genuine community character that's hard to find in California. The region's agricultural heritage fuels a vibrant food scene — from farm-fresh markets and local orchards to a diverse restaurant culture boasting over 40 food trucks and globally influenced dining. Culturally, Modesto punches well above its weight, earning the #1 ranking for "America's Hidden Gems Live Music Scene" and hosting beloved annual events like Graffiti Summer — a nod to hometown legend George Lucas — along with international mural festivals and holiday celebrations that bring the downtown alive year-round. With the Sierra Nevada foothills as your backyard and a cost of living far below coastal California, Modesto is an ideal home base for physicians who want a rich, balanced life without compromise.
