Job Description

Shape the future of primary packaging solutions and make a real impact on patients worldwide. Join us as a Senior Primary Packaging Product Development Engineer, where your expertise will drive innovation, solve complex challenges, and influence products across their entire lifecycle. This is your opportunity to be a technical leader in a dynamic and collaborative environment.

Your new role

As a Senior Primary Packaging Product Development Engineer (JL7), you will act as a subject matter expert, delivering advanced technical solutions and driving innovation across development and lifecycle activities. You will take ownership of complex technical challenges, guide decision-making, and influence projects with significant organisational impact.

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Driving innovation by identifying and implementing new primary packaging technologies and solutions, while contributing to long-term technical roadmaps
  • Leading development and continuous improvement of primary packaging systems, ensuring technical integrity, compliance, and performance
  • Managing lifecycle activities, including technical assessments, investigations, and optimisation of marketed packaging solutions
  • Acting as technical lead or Product/PrimPack Lead to coordinate stakeholders, manage risks, and ensure transparent execution of development activities
  • Mentoring colleagues and contributing to capability development, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement within the organisation

You will work independently on most challenges, applying your expertise to balance technical, quality, and business considerations while influencing key stakeholders across functions and projects.

Your new department

You will join a highly specialised engineering and technical environment within Product Development, focused on Primary Packaging. The department works across the full product lifecycle—from innovation and development to optimisation of marketed products—ensuring robust, compliant, and high-quality primary packaging solutions.

Collaboration is at the heart of how we work. You will engage with stakeholders across Product Supply, Quality Assurance, Regulatory Affairs, and external partners, contributing to cross-functional projects and technical networks.

Your skills and qualifications

We are looking for a specialist who thrives in complexity and enjoys shaping technical direction through expertise and collaboration.

To succeed in this role, you should have:

  • A relevant degree (PhD, MSc, or BSc) with extensive experience in primary packaging, materials science, or a related technical discipline
  • Strong experience in primary packaging development, lifecycle management, and technical problem solving
  • Demonstrated ability to drive technical decisions, manage risk, and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders
  • Expertise in areas such as container closure systems, material selection, supplier collaboration, or technical documentation
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence, mentor, and build trust across teams

You bring a proactive mindset, accountability, and a passion for innovation, combined with the ability to navigate ambiguity and deliver results in a complex environment.
