Tool and Die Maker II

JOB SUMMARY: Fabricate and/or repair precision carbide and steel tooling (dies, jigs, fixtures, gauges, etc.) for the manufacture of aircraft quality fasteners, utilizing automatic and manual machines, and/or cutting apparatuses, and precision measuring devices. Essential Duties, Responsibilities and Competencies: Reads and interprets specifications such as blueprints, sketches, models, or descriptions to determine materials and machines required to fabricate part. Computes dimensions, plans layout, and determines assembly method and sequence of operations. Measures, makes, and scribes metal stock for machining. Tests functional performance of tooling under specified conditions. Sets up and operates equipment such as lathe, milling machine, and grinder to machine parts, and verifies conformance of machined parts to specifications. Analyzes results on defective tooling to determine cause of failure. Examines standard to previously used dies, tools, jigs and fixtures, and recommends design modification regarding construction and function of part. Meets and maintains productivity levels and quality requirements in support of departmental standards, goals and schedules. Performs record keeping, housekeeping, and follows safety regulations. Other duties as assigned.
