Solution Architect

We are looking for a Solution Architect to own technical design across our client engagements — turning complex business requirements into scalable, production-ready systems. You will work closely with engineering leads, product, and client stakeholders to define integration patterns, validate architectural decisions, and ensure everything we ship is secure, maintainable, and built to last. 

Responsibilities

• Design end-to-end solution architectures for web, API, and data-driven applications on AWS 
• Lead technical discovery with clients — map workflows, data models, and integration requirements 
• Define API contracts, service boundaries, and data flow patterns across microservices 
• Review and validate proposed designs for scalability, security, and operational reliability 
• Collaborate with engineering teams to translate architecture decisions into actionable specs 
• Maintain a library of reference architectures, ADRs, and technical documentation 
• Participate in pre-sales and client onboarding as a trusted technical advisor 
• Identify and drive improvements to engineering standards and best practices across projects

What Success Looks Like 

• 30 days: You have mapped SmartDev's delivery stack end-to-end, onboarded onto 2 active projects, and can independently review and present architecture proposals to both internal teams and clients. 
• 90 days: You own the solution design on at least 2 client engagements and have produced 2–3 reusable architecture blueprints adopted by the wider engineering team. 
• 12 months: Your reference architectures have reduced average project kickoff time by 20–25%. You are a go-to technical voice in client deals and a recognised contributor to SmartDev's engineering culture and standards.

Must have: 

• 5–8 years in software engineering, with 2+ years in a solution or enterprise architecture role 
• Backend proficiency in one or more of: Java (Spring Boot), Node.js (NestJS / Express), .NET, Python / FastAPI 
• Frontend awareness across Angular, React, Vue.js, or Flutter — able to review and guide UI architecture decisions 
• Strong command of relational and NoSQL databases: PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB 
• Hands-on experience with REST APIs, GraphQL, and event-driven architecture (Kafka, RabbitMQ) 
• Cloud-native architecture experience on AWS, Azure, or GCP 
• Proficiency with containerisation and orchestration: Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines 
• Deep understanding of architectural patterns: microservices, modular monolith, distributed systems 
• Proven ability to communicate complex architectures to both engineers and non-technical stakeholders 
• Experience in pre-sales activities — solution scoping, technical proposals, RFP responses, and client presentations 
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills — able to build trust with both technical teams and C-level stakeholders 
• Strong command of English (written and spoken) — comfortable leading client calls, writing documentation, and presenting solutions internationally 
• Broad T-shaped knowledge base — familiar with a wide range of domains including security, data engineering, AI/ML, mobile, and enterprise integration 
• Ability to rapidly prototype and build proof-of-concepts to validate architectural decisions and demonstrate ideas to clients 
• Solid understanding of networking and infrastructure fundamentals — TCP/IP, DNS, load balancing, VPNs, firewalls, CDN, and cloud networking (VPC, subnets, security groups) 

Nice to have:

• AWS Solutions Architect certification (Associate or Professional) 
• Experience in a client-facing or consultancy environment 
• Familiarity with AI/ML or LLM-based system design 
• Knowledge of security and compliance frameworks (SOC 2, ISO 27001, GDPR) 
• Domain experience in one or more of: Financial Services (banking, payments, lending), Healthcare & Pharma (EHR, HL7/FHIR, compliance), or Retail & Logistics (e-commerce, supply chain, last-mile delivery)
