A Day in the Life:
JOB SUMMARY
The Senior Manager, Material Sourcing, Footwear is a strategic and operational leader responsible for end-to-end material sourcing, development, and bulk production execution for Footwear.
This role partners cross-functionally with Design, Product Development, Merchandising, QA, and Supply Chain to translate design vision into commercially viable materials while ensuring on-time delivery, quality, and cost targets are met.
In addition to development responsibilities, this role owns bulk material readiness and production performance, driving supplier excellence and ensuring seamless transition from development to commercialization.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Material Development & Sourcing Strategy
- Lead sourcing and development of leathers, textiles, and trims aligned with brand direction, cost targets, and seasonal timelines
- Identify and onboard new suppliers, materials, and techniques to support innovation and business growth
- Ensure material development milestones (proto → SMS) are achieved on time
- Build and maintain seasonal material strategies, libraries, and standards
Bulk Production & Material Readiness
- Own bulk material readiness from SMS approval through bulk production
- Drive material-level On-Time Delivery performance supporting factory production timelines
- Monitor material supply, capacity, and risks across suppliers and proactively mitigate delays
- Ensure smooth handover from development to production with clear standards and approvals
Supplier Management & Performance
- Build strong partnerships with tanneries, mills, and material vendors across regions
- Drive supplier performance in quality, delivery, cost, and compliance
- Conduct regular supplier evaluations and continuous improvement initiatives
- Lead negotiations on cost, MOQ, and capacity planning
Product Integrity, Quality & Compliance
- Ensure all materials meet quality, performance, and Restricted Substance requirements prior to production
- Lead resolution of material quality issues across development and bulk stages
- Coordinate testing programs and proactively identify risks
Material Data, Systems & Process Excellence
- Ensure accurate material setup and data integrity in PLM systems
- Maintain tracking tools for development status, approvals, and bulk readiness
- Standardize processes across development and production lifecycle
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of material sourcing professionals
- Set team priorities, KPIs, and performance expectations
- Foster a collaborative, accountable, and high-performance culture
EDUCATION & PRIOR EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree or above
- 8–12+ years of experience in footwear materials sourcing, development, and production
- Strong expertise in leather, textile, and trim applications in footwear
- Proven experience managing bulk production and supplier performance
- Strong negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication skills in English and Mandarin
- Willingness to travel across Asia
