Cafeteria Custodian - Day Shift

Position:  Cafeteria Custodian – Day Shift 

Location:  Sussex County Vocational Technical School District 

Reports To:  Cafeteria Manager & Building Chief 

Starting Date:  August 2026 

Qualifications:   

• High School Diploma or equivalent required. 

• Previous experience in cleaning and/or maintenance of facilities preferred.  

• Able to operate machinery necessary for cleaning.    

• Possess basic technology skills. 

• Willingness to work as a member of a team and exhibit sound interpersonal skills.  

• Able to perform essential job functions on site in year-round weather conditions, lifting 50 lbs., climbing ladders, walking/standing for long periods of time and completion of tasks requiring full range of movement.  

Performance Responsibilities: 

• Assigned to cafeteria and kitchen and functions as member of cafeteria staff during cafeteria workdays.  

• Cleans all areas of the cafeteria and kitchen on a daily basis.    

• Removes trash, cleans tables, and supports cleanliness of breakfast and lunch service during school hours.    

• Assists in the care and repair of equipment, management of supplies, and inventory in the cafeteria.  

• Communicates effectively with Cafeteria Manager, Building Chief, school administration and other staff to ensure tasks are completed in an efficient manner. 

• Assigned to regular custodial department during seasonal/summer, inclement weather, and non-cafeteria workdays.  

• Exhibits positive and professional interaction with all employees, students, and community members.  

• Works to clear snow when necessary as part of the custodial department 

• Supports all custodial duties school-wide as necessary.  

• Other duties as assigned.  

Terms of Employment:  Twelve (12) month position.   Day shift position only.  Applicant may be subject to a 90-day probationary period.  Daily Schedule: 9:00 am – 5:00 pm  

Benefits: Pension and benefit eligible position.  

Salary Range:  $41,687 - $54,560
