As Legal Counsel, Brazil, you will serve as the primary legal advisor for Stryker’s operations in Brazil while leading the local Legal team. In this role, you will provide practical legal guidance on complex business matters, partner with senior leaders on strategic initiatives, and help ensure business activities align with applicable laws, regulations, and company policies.
What You Will Do
- Provide legal advice to business leaders on complex commercial, regulatory, governance, compliance, and corporate matters affecting operations in Brazil.
- Draft, review, negotiate, and manage complex commercial agreements and strategic contracts to support business objectives and appropriate risk management.
- Lead legal support for strategic business initiatives, including commercial restructuring, new business models, mergers, acquisitions, integrations, and divestitures.
- Advise on the application of Brazilian laws, including anti-corruption, competition, data privacy, regulatory, and corporate legal requirements.
- Oversee legal aspects of internal investigations, risk assessments, remediation activities, and sensitive business matters in collaboration with Compliance and global Legal teams.
- Manage, coach, and develop the Brazil Legal team while coordinating the work of external legal counsel to ensure quality, efficiency, and cost-effective support.
- Develop and maintain legal processes, governance frameworks, contract templates, and training programs that support consistent and compliant business operations.
- Monitor changes in Brazilian legislation and communicate legal implications and required actions to business stakeholders.
What You Will Need
Required Qualifications
- Law degree.
- Active license to practice law in Brazil (OAB).
- Previous professional legal experience in a law firm, corporate legal department, or a combination of both.
- Fluency in Portuguese and English.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting businesses in the life sciences, medical technology, healthcare, pharmaceutical, or other highly regulated industries.
- Experience providing legal counsel in a highly regulated business environment.
- Fluency in Spanish.
