Job Description

The CG Supervisor is responsible for the visual and technical quality of the CG elements on a project, translating the VFX Supervisor’s vision through every delivered shot. As a key pillar of the 3D pipeline, they guide the artistic teams, optimize workflows, and ensure the aesthetic and technical consistency of all deliverables.

Working closely with Production, Supervision, the Head of 3D Operations, and the Heads of Department, they actively contribute to the planning, strategy, and overall success of the project, while upholding Rodeo FX’s standards of excellence and collaboration.

Key Responsibilities:

Carry the VFX Supervisor’s vision through the visual and technical quality of the CG work

  • Support the VFX Supervisor in defining the project’s artistic and technical direction.
  • Translate the creative vision into concrete, achievable solutions within the 3D pipeline.
  • Contribute to the assessment and planning of technical and staffing needs during bids or scope changes.
  • Provide clear and constructive feedback during dailies and internal reviews.
  • Maintain visual consistency and seamless integration across artistic and technical departments.

Supervise all CG departments assigned to the project

  • Establish workflows, methodologies, and technical standards adapted to the project’s needs.
  • Anticipate technical and artistic challenges and propose effective, sustainable solutions.
  • Guide and support leads and artists, ensuring clear briefs and daily alignment on priorities.
  • Work closely with Heads of Department to ensure pipeline consistency and performance.
  • Foster a positive work environment where rigour, collaboration, and curiosity are valued.

Deliver work on schedule and according to Rodeo FX’s quality standards

  • Oversee task planning and progress in collaboration with Production and the leads.
  • Ensure that timelines, visual quality, and technical expectations are met across all CG departments.
  • Quickly identify production risks and propose relevant adjustments.
  • Actively contribute to the preparation and validation of final deliverables with VFX Supervision.

Drive project efficiency and productivity

  • Optimize processes, tools, and scene configurations to maximize performance.
  • Implement practices that help reduce render times and render farm load.
  • Encourage technical and methodological innovation within the team.
  • Analyze post-mortems to improve the performance and flow of future productions.

Support the departments

  • Collaborate with the Head of 3D Operations and Technology teams to improve tools and methodologies.
  • Document project learnings and best practices for studio-wide sharing and adoption.
  • Contribute to the evolution of the global pipeline by proposing artistic and technical improvements based on production experience.
  • Support talent development and training by sharing expertise across the studio.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a VFX environment.
  • Proven experience in team supervision, project management, or cross-department coordination.
  • Strong proficiency with Maya, Houdini, Nuke, Mari, Flow, Arnold, RenderMan, Karma, Solaris, and USD.
  • In-depth knowledge of CG and VFX pipelines, as well as integration and rendering principles.
  • Advanced artistic and technical skills, with a strong understanding of composition, lighting, and visual storytelling.
  • Confident leadership, rigour, strategic thinking, and the ability to remain composed under pressure.
  • Clear and collaborative communication, strong attention to detail, and a constant drive to raise the quality of deliverables.
  • Asset: experience in tool development, pipeline optimization, or scripting such as Python, VEX, MEL, C++, or OSL.
  • Asset: contribution to technology watch and pipeline innovation.
  • Asset: experience in client presentations, conferences, panels, or external representation.
  • Full-time, Permanent Contract;
  • Studio presence required 4 days per week;
  • 5 paid sick/personal days;
