Senior Engineer - Pedestrian Modelling

Job Description

Responsibilities 

  • Develop, calibrate, and maintain advanced passenger behaviour simulation models across multiple transportation modes, including rail, bus, air, and urban mobility systems.
  • Apply both static and dynamic modelling techniques, integrating data-driven insights such as demographics, user preferences, and crowd dynamics to improve accuracy and realism.
  • Validate, test, and document simulation models to ensure quality, reliability, and compliance with industry standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams—such as data scientists, software developers, and project managers—to integrate models into products and project deliverables.
  • Prepare clear technical reports, visualizations, and presentations to communicate modelling results and insights to clients and stakeholders.
  • Engage directly with clients to understand requirements, tailor simulation approaches, and provide technical support throughout implementation.
  • Monitor emerging trends and research in passenger behaviour and modelling techniques to continuously improve methodologies.
  • Mentor and support junior team members, fostering knowledge-sharing and professional development.
  • Foster collaboration across WSP within India and globally.
  • Train and mentor junior staff.
  • Other duties as assigned/required.

Mandatory Skills

  • Proven experience in developing passenger behavior simulation models within transportation, urban planning, or related industries.
  • Direct experience in both static and dynamic passenger modelling, such as Legion, Viswalk, and MassMotion will be an asset.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and/or Excel with VBA.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work on complex mathematical models and algorithms.
  • Knowledge of data analysis and visualization tools (e.g., MATLAB, R) is a plus.
  • Familiarity with transportation systems, crowd dynamics, and human factors is highly advantageous.
  • Previous involvement in the development of the Crowd Control Plan (CCP) will be an asset.
  • Previous experience in performing passenger movement analysis in major transit facilities will be an asset.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
  • Passion for innovation and a desire to contribute to the future of passenger experience in the transportation industry.
  • Exposure to international delivery models and remote collaboration.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills. 

 


 

Qualifications

  • BEng /BTech in Civil Engineering preferably MEng/ MTech on Highways/ Traffic engineering with a minimum of 6 years experience in the field of Transport/Pedestrian Modelling.
  • Member or working towards associated Professional body membership.
  • It is mandatory to have 1/2 years of working experience on UK projects.
  • Minimum 2 years of working experience on international projects including UK experience.
