POSITION PURPOSE
The LABORER GRADING CONCRETE POSITION is responsible for supporting grading crews with a variety of physical and operational tasks on heavy construction projects. This role assists in site preparation, material handling, and equipment support to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule, while building foundational skills for advancement within grading operations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Employee shall perform all duties and responsibilities with Sunland's Core Values at the forefront.
- Perform a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor on grading and site development projects.
- Prepare job sites by cleaning debris, removing materials, and assisting with grading preparation.
- Work on the ground in support of grading and paving operations as needed.
- Assist Foremen, Superintendents, equipment operators, and truck drivers with daily production tasks.
- Must work quickly, productively and safely to meet production goals as outlined by the Foreman, Superintendent and/or Production Manager.
- Follow direction of the Foreman and/or Superintendent regarding daily production schedule and activities.
- Operate hand tools and small motorized equipment such as rakes, shovels, wheelbarrows, saws, and other tools.
- Assist in the operation of heavy equipment (including rollers and grading equipment) when directed and properly trained.
- Load, unload, haul, and hoist materials and equipment as required.
- Inspect, clean, and maintain tools, equipment, and machinery.
- Responsible for reporting problems and malfunctioning equipment and/or machinery to supervisor and/or shop personnel.
- May assist with equipment setup and tear down.
- Maintain a clean job site; pick up all tools and equipment and secure job site each day.
- Must follow all safety policies and procedures.
- Actively participate in job-site and safety meetings and all Company related training.
- Work in conjunction with Foreman or Crew Leader to ensure the job site is safe and traffic is controlled prior to commencing work.
- Must be a strong communicator and maintain communication with operators, truck drivers, and fellow laborers.
- Perform all general labor duties as needed.

SAFTEY
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

This role is based on active construction sites and requires effective verbal communication in person and by phone, the ability to read instructions and safety materials, and sustained attention despite interruptions. The position involves physical tasks such as lifting up to 50 pounds, climbing, balancing, bending, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and working overhead while safely navigating job sites.
Employees must operate vehicles, trailers, machinery, and tools in compliance with all safety regulations. The role primarily takes place outdoors, often for extended periods in varying and extreme weather conditions. Exposure to chemicals, airborne particles, loud noise, moving equipment, uneven surfaces, and debris may occur.
POSITION TYPE / HOURS
- FULL TIME - Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.
TRAVEL
- Must be willing to travel to any and all jobsites without exception (including staying away from home if necessary.)
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- A high school diploma or GED is preferred.
- Six (6) months to one (1) year related experience is preferred
- A valid driver's license and a clean motor-vehicle record preferred.
- Passing a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening and background check is required.
