The Department of Restorative Dentistry at the School of Dentistry has an outstanding opportunity for Dental Assistant 2 to join their team.

About this Opportunity

Reporting to the Director of Maxillofacial Prosthetic, the Dental Assistant 2 is responsible for assisting the Maxillofacial Prosthodontist in treating patients with complex oral/facial rehabilitation and prosthodontic care.

The salary information provided below is for a full-time position and will be prorated for this part-time, 80% FTE opportunity.

Key Responsibilities

Treatment of patients with complex oral/facial rehabilitation (50%)

  • Making diagnostic records
  • Impressions for implant-supported prosthetics and obturators
  • Making facial moulages for facial prosthetics
  • Try-ins and delivery of case
  • Try-ins and delivery of cases

Expanded Dental Assistant Duties (50%)

  • Making impressions for study casts and opposing casts for fixed and removable prosthodontics
  • Mechanical polishing to amalgam restorations, clinical crowns and supragingival areas
  • Place matrix and wedge
  • Remove excess cement
  • Fabricate, place, and remove temporary fillings
  • Expose and process dental x-ray film
  • Give fluoride treatments
  • Teach oral hygiene and prosthesis care
  • Placement of retraction cord
  • Select denture shade and mould
  • Place cotton rolls and holders
  • Other duties as provided laws of the State of Washington.
  • Take and record vital signs and review health history of patients
  • Greet/seat patients, adjust chair and prepare patient for maxillofacial prosthodontist
  • Sterilize and prepare instruments for set-ups
  • Maintain dental records and files, maintain inventory of equipment, and order and maintain clinic supplies.
  • Determine and order appropriate implant components for implant restorations.
  • Prepare and coordinate dental cases for laboratory pick-ups and deliveries
  • Clean and coordinate maintenance of dental operatory and equipment
  • May serve as a back-up receptionist as needed
  • Include duties of a Dental Assistant 1
  • Perform related duties as required

Required Qualifications

Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants who do not meet these qualifications WILL NOT be forwarded to the Hiring Department.

  • Completion of an accredited training program for dental assistants; AND current certification as a dental assistant (CDA) OR the ability to obtain same within six months; PLUS two years of experience as a dental assistant.  One year of additional dental assistant experience may substitute for required education.
  • Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as license, certification, and/or registration.

Additional Qualifications

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certificate, or ability to obtain within 1 month

Legal Requirements:

  • Registration with the State of Washington as a Dental Assistant

About the Team

The Department of Restorative Dentistry at the School of Dentistry is the largest teaching department within the School of Dentistry.  The Maxillofacial Prosthetic Service/Practice is within the Department of Restorative Dentistry and works with a multidisciplinary team throughout UW Medicine in management of complex oncological and trauma patients serving Washington and the surrounding Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana. and Idaho region.   Craniofacial implant-retained facial prostheses, obturators, cleft palate speech aid prostheses, implant prostheses, surgical guides and stents, and a wide array of unique and challenging rehabilitation efforts comprise this area of endeavor. Many of these patients need routine and timely prosthodontic care.  Thus, this service provides a wide array of prosthodontic care for these patients, to include, but not limited to restorative care (direct restorations), core build-ups, post and cores, crowns, multi-unit fixed dental prostheses, implant-supported dental prostheses, complete dentures (immediate and remote), partial dentures, routine extractions, and implant placement.

Pay Range Minimum:

$45,432.00 annual

Pay Range Maximum:

$59,484.00 annual
