Job Description
The Hydrology and Hydraulics Bureau of the South Florida Water Management District (District) seeks a Senior Engineer with proven skills and expertise in hydrology and hydraulics. This position provides technical support to a variety of organizations across the District that require assistance in the assessment of potential impacts of different project activities on the operation of the water management system. Responsibilities include reviewing or conducting hydrologic and hydraulic analysis for the design, upgrade, or operation of water resource facilities.
The incumbent will conduct engineering project reviews and facilitate operations-related response to right-of-way and other types of permit applications. Responsibilities also include reviewing, producing and/or maintaining operations related technical documents such as the structure book, basin atlases, and water control plans. Work products will be produced in close consultation with the District water managers. Knowledge of the principles of the operation of the water management system and familiarity with the purpose and operation of individual water management facilities are highly desired.
Incumbent must demonstrate the following technical qualities:
• Demonstrated record of advanced knowledge and substantial expertise in hydrology and hydraulics
• Expertise in water management and water control operations desirable
• Fluency in the use of spreadsheets and statistical tools to solve hydrologic and hydraulics problems
• Proficiency in communication and documentation of hydrologic and hydraulic products, techniques, and processes in support of district projects, to both technical and non-technical audiences
Employment Guidelines:
Senior Engineer: Typically has a Bachelor's Degree from an ABET/EAC accredited program and 6+ years experience that demonstrates measurable career progression within engineering discipline that can be applied to support the District's strategic goals and objectives. Disciplines for engineering education and experience requirements include Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, and other water-related engineering fields.
Licenses: Incumbent has State of Florida Professional Engineer (PE) license and keeps licensure status current. Valid State of Florida Driver's License required.
Senior Scientist: Typically has Bachelor's Degree in Natural or Physical Sciences and 6+ years' experience that demonstrates measurable career progression within scientific discipline that can be applied to support the District's strategic goals and objectives.
Staff Engineer: Bachelor of Science degree from an ABET/EAC accredited program in Agricultural, Civil, Environmental, or related engineering field and at least four years of qualifying experience that demonstrates measurable career progression in water resource engineering. Licenses: Incumbent has State of Florida Professional Engineer (PE) license and keeps licensure status current. Valid State of Florida Driver's License required.
Engineering Specialist 4: Typically has Bachelor's Degree from an ABET/EAC accredited program and 4+ years experience that demonstrates measurable career progression within engineering discipline that can be applied to support the District's strategic goals and objectives. Incumbent continues the process for attaining State of Florida Professional Engineer license by receipt of Engineer-in-Training (EIT) designation and continuing to accumulate acceptable experience for work time licensure requirements. Valid State of Florida Driver's License required.

Incumbent continues the process for attaining State of Florida Professional Engineer license by receipt of Engineer-in-Training (EIT) designation and continuing to accumulate acceptable experience for work time licensure requirements. Valid State of Florida Driver's License required.
Engineering Specialist 1: Typically has Bachelor's Degree from an ABET/EAC accredited program and less than 1 year experience. Disciplines for engineering education and experience requirements include Civil, Construction, Electrical, Environmental, and Mechanical engineering. Incumbent begins the process for attaining State of Florida Professional Engineer license by passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and receiving Engineer-in-Training (EIT) designation. Employee begins to accumulate acceptable experience to meet work time licensure requirements. Valid State of Florida Driver's License required.
Physical Requirements/ Working Environment:
Due to the District's response role and in the total scope of emergency management, this position may at times, be required to provide support before, during, and after major storm events and emergency situations, such as hurricanes or other declared emergencies, depending on assigned emergency response role.
