Summary of Essential Duties:
- Serves as a clinical and operational resource for all nursing activities in the department
- Oversees and authorizes incidental overtime
- Provides assistance to co-workers, new staff, temporary staff and students
- Delegates and assigns tasks to licensed and unlicensed health care workers within the scope of their job responsibilities
- Coaches and supports nursing staff in the application of advanced clinical skills and critical thinking to support patient care activities
- Evaluates, facilitates and promotes patient flow, coordinates discharge planning and team rounding as applicable
- Assumes responsibility for mentoring, coaching and staff development, acts as change champion
- Contributes to performance evaluations
- Champions department improvement activities
- Evaluates and works to improve the process of patient care delivery within the unit and service centers
- Provides expert comprehensive direct and indirect care to the specific populations needs, including cultural, spiritual, age, psychosocial, communication, gender, sexual orientation, economic, education, family and condition needs
Qualifications:
Education:
- BSN (Bachelor of Science, Nursing) required
License/Certifications:
- Current, unrestricted California RN license required
- Nursing Certification required. Specialized certification in pediatrics or cardiology preferred.
- ACLS or ALS from American Heart Association or American Red Cross required. Additional PALS certification preferred.
Experience:
- A minimum of 5 years of Cardiac nursing experience required
- Experience caring for pediatric and congenital heart disease patients in an ambulatory, inpatient, or procedural setting preferred.
- Charge Nurse experience preferred
- Must be a Clinical Nurse III for at least 1 year to be promoted within the clinical ladder
