Job Description
Wastewater Plant Operator must have the qualifications, technical knowledge, experience and skills required to efficiently operate, maintain and repair the Wastewater Treatment System which includes Wastewater Treatment Plants, Piping and Collection Systems including Bilge and Oily Water Treatment System (BOWTS) and collection system, Trickling Filter Plants and Septic Tanks.
Responsibilities
- Performs daily tasks and work orders involving wastewater treatment operations and maintenance.
- Perform maintenance and repair shall include all work necessary to complete facility and system restoration, including touch-up painting, corrosion control and operational checks.
- Operate and maintain equipment at the treatment facility.
- Submit accurate and complete documents within the required time frames.
- Efficiently operate and maintain the wastewater treatment plant and collection system to safely collect, transport, treat and dispose of wastewater to ensure all sewage requirements are continually met.
- Monitor equipment and system components, such as, sewage holding tanks, lift stations, pumps, screens, oil/water separators, filters, chemical and biological treatment, valves and automatic controls. Regulation of equipment controls such as able to make adjustment of equipment and systems by examinations, flow and lubrication.
- Ensures the wastewater treatment plant maintain compliance requirements & applicable regulations.
- Pursue training courses for certifications to comply with the select team members that enhance knowledge of utilities, safety, and management.
- Operates Pretreatment System, to include inspections, testing, and other items to ensure compliance.
- Must be able to work collaboratively and cooperatively with a diverse team of personnel.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Education/Certifications: One-year related experience may be substituted for one year of education.
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Certification/license that is equivalent to the State of Florida Class B or higher.
- Security Clearance NACI
Must attend:
- Confined Space Training
- Must attend annual 8-hour Training for Hazardous Waste Coordinators as provided by the Environmental Office
- Hazard Communication Training in accordance with 29 CFR 1910.1200
Experience:
- Two (2) years of previous experience in wastewater treatment processing facilities.
Working Environment:
- Utilities Wastewater Treatment Plants, Trickling Filter Plants, Industrial and Shop environment.
- Work is weighted toward the field environment; however, some work is conducted in an office or shop environment.
- May walk in rough terrain, sit, talk, listen, and use hands and fingers for job functions.
- The ability to reach with hands and arms, and the ability to voice communicate is required.
- The operator must have hand-eye coordination necessary to operate various tools and equipment of the trade, and able to lift at least 50 pounds.
- The operator must be able to work under adverse conditions including; darkness, wet weather, hot weather, etc.
