Job Description

The Senior Investment Operations Analyst will support Liberty University’s Chief Investment Officer and the senior investment team in the management of Liberty’s endowment assets. This role is designed for an experienced professional who brings strong accounting discipline, sound operational judgment, and consistent attention to detail, with a focus on execution, accuracy, and accountability.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform and review investment accounting activities, including monthly closes, reconciliations, and variance analysis.

  • Review custodian reports, investment statements, and capital activity for accuracy, completeness, and consistency with internal records.

  • Monitor cash activity, capital calls, and distributions across investment portfolios.

  • Coordinate with external service providers to resolve accounting and reporting matters.

  • Support audit processes by preparing schedules and documentation and coordinating requested materials under the direction of the Director of Operations.

  • Maintain and enhance internal controls, documentation standards, and accounting procedures related to investment operations.

  • Assist with investment data integrity, reporting timelines, and accounting‑related process improvements.

  • Maintain, organize, and periodically review investment documentation and records housed within the Investment Office’s research management software to ensure completeness, accuracy, and adherence to internal standards.

  • Review investment documentation and notices with an operational and accounting lens.

  • Support broader investment operations functions as needed, with emphasis on accounting and reporting integrity.

  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field is required.

  • At least two years of public accounting experience (preferred) or other relevant experience, such as investment fund accounting, internal audit, or financial operations.

  • Hold, or be in the process of working toward, a CPA (preferred), CIA, or CFA designation.

  • Strong understanding of investment structures, including private funds, commingled vehicles, and custodial reporting.

  • Demonstrated ability to perform detailed reconciliations and work effectively with complex financial data.

  • Solid understanding of internal controls and audit support requirements.

  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and discretion.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Advanced Excel skills; experience with custodians or portfolio accounting systems is a plus.

  • Accounting‑focused and detail‑oriented, with a strong sense of ownership for work product.

  • Exercises sound professional judgment and a thoughtful, methodical approach to work.

  • Comfortable working independently while collaborating within a small, experienced team.

  • Organized, dependable, and able to manage recurring deadlines effectively.

  • Ability to articulate and defend the unique Christian educational mission and vision of Liberty University and its subsidiaries to a wide variety of individuals and groups.

  • Self-motivated and directed, possessing an ability to motivate others

  • The highest level of integrity, honesty, and sense of fiduciary duty

  • Individual must not be in default on any federal student or parent loan

  • Individual must not be convicted of, or pled nolo contendere or guilty to, a crime involving the acquisition, use, or expenditure of federal, state, or local government funds, -or- be administratively or judicially determined to have committed fraud or any other material violation of law involving federal, state, or local government funds (CFR 668.14(b)(18)(i))

Work Environment

The working environment in which one will typically perform the essential functions of this position is a climate-controlled office setting. It is well lighted and the noise level is moderate.

Driving Requirements

If the employee is required to travel in performing the duties and responsibilities of the position, the use of one’s personal vehicle (or LU vehicles) may be required for travel.  Proof of a valid driver’s license, an acceptable DMV record, LU Driving Approval, and liability insurance is required when driving in the performance of the employee’s position.
