
Maintenance Technician
Job Description
We are looking for a talented Maintenance Technician to join our team specialising in Manufacturing for our Maintenance department in Darlington, United Kingdom.
PLEASE NOTE: Shift Pattern is currently 4 on 4 off (2 12hr days / 2 12hr nights).
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
- Drive system reliability: troubleshoot, repair and enhance complex mechanical, electrical and control systems to keep production running smoothly.
- Improve equipment performance: identify issues early and implement improvements that reduce downtime and increase efficiency.
- Champion safe working practices: apply rigorous safety protocols when working with electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Lead and support colleagues: act as a formal resource for less‑experienced team members, offering guidance and technical support.
- Enhance maintenance processes: contribute to preventive, corrective and predictive maintenance activities.
- Support continuous improvement: participate in initiatives to improve quality, safety, material flow and team development.
- Maintain high workmanship standards: ensure all tasks meet quality requirements, documentation standards and engineering specifications.
- Adapt quickly to change: respond effectively to evolving production needs and shifting priorities.
- Drive Improvements: Enter breakdown information into a CMMS to provide data to drive machine performance and uptime.
To be successful in this role, you will need the following:
- Mechanical and Electrical fault‑finding: Ability to diagnose issues on complex systems using schematic drawings, diagrams and testing equipment.
- Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems: Confident working with industrial energy sources and associated safety controls.
- Understanding of machine safety systems: Including LOTO procedures and safe working practices and knowledge of safety control systems.
- Experience with automation: Siemens PLC knowledge (fault finding and programming) and robot experience would be advantageous. Familiarity of powered conveyor systems and their controls is preferable.
Education/Experience:
- Time‑served Maintenance Technician background: Must have served a recognised apprenticeship in a relevant discipline supported by NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.
- Relevant technical qualifications: such as ONC/HNC in Electrical, Mechanical or Mechatronic engineering.
- Significant hands‑on experience: gained in a manufacturing or industrial environment, with the ability to work safely with multiple energy sources.
