Job Summary
The key accountability of a Facilities Maintenance Manager is to manage the upkeep of all facilities at the plant, repair and maintenance of machinery, lead a maintenance staff, including toolroom associates comprised of Union workers. Perform a variety of duties in assisting with preventative maintenance, production, and maintenance projects in a manufacturing setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Preventative Maintenance Program
- Create and maintain the Preventative Maintenance Program for multiple business units.
- Ensure all maintenance tickets are entered and closed as needed.
- Determine preventative maintenance required on existing and new equipment, including the identification / numbering of new machines.
- Review work orders and specifications to determine machines and equipment requiring repair or maintenance and assign to maintenance staff.
- Maintenance Project Management
- Manage the projects of the entire facility. Union maintenance staff have multiple subordinates. Prioritization and dictation of duties is critical.
- Determine training required of personnel, including re-certifications and compliance training.
- Maintain necessary workforce in Maintenance area to meet work demands.
- Suggest new asset acquisitions, new facility support systems, and upgrades to current manufacturing and plant equipment.
- Respond to emergencies to facilitate repairs in a timely and effective manner to support production schedules.
- Recommend expense and capital projects to upper management and manage the projects from investigation to completion.
- Maintenance Supervision
- Build, manage and lead the Union maintenance personnel at facility.
- Develop hourly work force by providing skills training specific to equipment and processes to improve and maintain the facilities and assets.
- Manage a multi-skilled union hourly workforce across all shifts.
- Coordinate all maintenance activities with operations personnel.
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulatory policies and division policies and procedure.
- Manage overtime and call-in requirements per the labor contract.
- Lean / Safety Support
- Play key role in the implementation and sustainment of “Lean” activities by assisting in the training of personnel and assisting in participating in various events.
- Champion safe work practices for both department personnel and contracted labor, including conducting safety observations and addressing hazards in real time.
- Lead incident investigations and corrective action planning as cross-functional safety team member.
- Hold authority to stop any work activity that presents an imminent safety risk.
- Responsible for the safe work practices within the department and contracted labor.
- Lead or coordinate regular toolbox talks and safety training sessions.
- Coordinate on-site safety events such as a work boot trucks, hearing and vision testing, and other health screening initiatives or environmental requirements.
- Adhere to OSHA rules and regulations.
- Other duties as needed and/or assigned.
Qualifications:
- 8-10 years of experience in industrial maintenance environment required.
- 5 years of experience managing others in a manufacturing environment required.
- Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
- Basic mathematical skills in arithmetic, algebra, and their applications.
- Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
- Minimum of Associate Degree in maintenance, operations or another applicable field.
Skills & Competencies:
- Familiarity with Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement and Preventative Maintenance Programs (e-maintenance) a plus.
- Familiarity with OSHA rules and regulations.
- Capacity for learning; understanding the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Good organization skills.
- Time management and ability to work effectively, meet deadlines and coordinate work with fellow workers.
- Must be familiar with tools and equipment so as to identify what is needed to do a job. This includes the ability to identify the correct support personnel to install equipment, machines, wiring or programs to meet specifications set forth for a particular job.
- Must be able to understand information in a work-related document.
Working Conditions:
- Standard work week is Monday through Friday, hours to be consistent with business unit; some off hours work expected.
- Sense of Urgency, on-call to facility related activities.
- Working in production environment.
- Working facility grounds.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift, pull, push up to 40 pounds.
- Climbing of stairs; occasionally, must be able to climb ladders.
- Heights will be required.
- Walking the facility and working in the production area.
