Position Overview

Boeing India - Engineering, Test & Technology (ET&T) is looking for Executive Director and Chief Engineer, Boeing India Software Engineering (BISE). This position is based out of the Boeing India Engineering & Technology Center (BIETC). Software (“SW”) Engineering has been identified as one of critical and strategic importance to the Enterprise. Software has also been deemed as one of the critical areas for Boeing India in support of the enterprise needs. This position will report to the Boeing India Chief Engineer and BIETC Managing Director and will be dotted lined to the Enterprise Chief Engineer for Software Engineering.

The BISE Chief Engineer will have complete responsibility for ensuring Software Engineering functional discipline and engineering excellence across India.  This position requires strong leadership, strategic thinking, driving technical excellence, and execution skills to achieve the results required to support Enterprise-wide business goals. India is a key site for Engineering, Test & Technology (ET&T) organization’s global strategy, providing tremendous value and access to talent. This role is key to achieving these objectives. 

Position Responsibilities

The Boeing India Software Chief Engineer is responsible for fostering a culture and work environment where Boeing Values and Behaviors thrive, implementing strategic initiatives for productivity improvements, cross-functional collaboration, leveraging strategic resources and providing technical oversight to ensure technical execution on programs. Key responsibilities include the following:

  • Capture program status (standard SW metrics, plus Earned Value Management and Quality metrics) to ensure SW is executing efficiently across the BU
  • Anticipate challenges and help needed to proactively resolve risks and issues; ensure RIOs are tracked and managed proactively before they become issues
  • Share ​Program status (including staffing needs) impacting schedule or EAC with BU CE and to SW Enterprise Leader
  • ​Ensure enterprise standardized processes and tools are deployed to programs 
  • Review proposals to ensure they are accurate and executable, provide assessments to BU CE and Enterprise SW leader
  • ​Maintain pulse on skill areas and work with enterprise to establish and deliver training
  • ​Work with other BU SW leaders to support Enterprise efforts
  • Work with stakeholders and Global Engineering and Boeing Engineering India strategy teams to proactively identify growth areas and global collaboration opportunities
  • Inspire teams to focus on innovation – ideas that lead to new products/services and/or new features in existing products/services that make them more competitive in the market
  • Provide leadership to multi-site teams
  • Provide functional leadership for all software skilled employees in ET&T India
  • Provide functional oversight for the following Software engineering skill areas:   Application Development, Software Systems, DevSecOps, Embedded Software, Hardware Emulation, Modeling & Simulation, AI, Secure networks & Protocols, Test & Verification, Vehicle Management Systems, Certifiable software standards. 
  • Align with global engineering and enterprise software engineering functional leadership
  • Ensure active participation in Software Engineering Design Practices creation and adoption
  • Ensure Technical Design Review plan is created and executed for all programs
  • Develop individual skill development plan and role-based career progression path
  • Devise strategic and tactical training plans and utilization of resources and plan for rotation/cross utilization as needed
  • Track key performance indicators (KPIs/metrics) at skill level, set targets and take actions to exceed targets
  • Partner with functional business partners (HR, Staffing, Comp & Ben etc…) to hire and retain the best talent
  • Establish partnerships with local suppliers to augment the software talent within Boeing; Utilize a mix of Boeing employees and contractors to effectively execute long-term and surge work
  • Continuously work on ideas to make Boeing the best workplace in town

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement
  • Significant experience in Software Engineering / IT / Engineering
  • Ability to drive synergies across aerospace domain
  • Significant leadership background with demonstrated experience both leading and developing teams; 5+ years of experience in leading software engineering / IT organization
  • Delivering results in a complex matrix environment in support of business and mission critical requirements – leading with courage and passion
  • Experience working across multiple functions and regions across a Global company
  • Demonstrable experience working with engineering business leaders to develop strategies and help deploy capabilities to support business performance
  • The ability to develop multi-year business capability roadmaps aligned with enterprise business and global engineering strategy
  • Ability to rapidly build consensus in large organizations and lead by influence across functions/ business
  • Ability to coach & mentor budding leaders
  • Ethical Mindset- Sustain and strengthen the excellent reputation of Boeing in India
  • The ability to think proactively and work collaboratively
  • Results-driven but also a strong bottom-line orientation
  • A tolerance for organizational complexity and a very strong team player

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Master's degree in technology management / business administration
  • Knowledge of the aviation / aerospace industry is highly preferred.

Typical Education & Experience

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education i.e. bachelor’s degree in engineering with more than 15 years’ experience or higher related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
