About the Unit 

Our Med Surg Unit is a 25-bed department providing comprehensive care to patients from Mason County and surrounding West Michigan communities. 
 

This unit cares for a wide range of medical conditions, including: 

  • Pneumonia and respiratory illnesses 
  • Cellulitis and infectious processes 
  • Kidney failure and acute/chronic kidney injury 
  • Diabetes-related conditions and hyperglycemia 
  • Ulcers and wound care needs 
  • Geriatric and confused elderly patients 
  • Alcohol-related health concerns 
  • Sepsis 
  • Select psychiatric patients 

Med Surg offers a broad clinical experience with a supportive team environment. 

  

Job Summary

Assumes shift accountability for managing, supervising, and coordinating the operational and financial effectiveness and efficiency of the nursing service/ unit of the hospital. Some service lines may require the ability to be available on call to better support the nursing service/unit. Additionally, Inpatient Supervisors may be required to fill-in for the hospital supervisor as needed. Key responsibilities include assisting with the following: clinical support, unit-based goal setting, program development, fiscal management, resource allocation, standards of care, policy and procedure development and interpretation, performance improvement, performance correction, and coaching and mentoring.

Corewell Health Nurse Supervisors are REQUIRED to obtain their nursing administration or professional/specialty certification within 12 months of assuming the role, or within 12 months of achieving eligibility to sit for the exam if not eligible upon hiring into the role.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree Nursing (BSN) must be obtained within 4 years for those who start in this role on or after February 1, 2017, at Big Rapids, Gerber, Kelsey, Ludington, Pennock, Reed City, United, Zeeland. Nursing (BSN) must be obtained within 5 years for those who start in this role on or before January 31, 2017, at Big Rapids, Gerber, Ludington, Pennock, Reed City, Zeeland.
  • Master's Degree MS, MSN, MBS, MM, MHA, MPH Preferred.
  • Skills, knowledge, abilities typically gained through 1+ year of related clinical experience Required.
  • MI RN License Required.
  • AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) Required.
